Any Green Day album makes for a fun listen, the older (Dookie and earlier) albums have a more punk feel while the more recent ones are more pop-rock, in my opinion.  You could try some Mudvayne or Sick Of It All, their stuff leans more towards metal, sort of a Slayer-esque mood.  I've heard some good things about a new band called As Fast As, I couldn't pass the album up priced at $7.99 but I haven't given it a listen yet...

Within the rock spectrum my tastes run more towards punk/alternative, so as far as metal/"classic" rock goes I coulldn't tell you much that you haven't already listened to death to already.  And yeah, I guess you could call me an "emo fag," if you must, given that I like Dashboard, Hawthorne Heights and whatnot...

At the moment I'm up to my knees in unopened CDs (from a store closing sale) so once I give them all a listen I'll list the standout albums.

Grave, Thy Disease, Legion of the Damned, Reckless Tide, Insision, Aborted, Hysteria, Nile and Susperia if you're wanting metal.

I'm shocked; nobody's mentioned some of the more obscure metal or rock groups.

Fear Factory, Savatage, Rammstein, Gary Moore, Blind Guardian, DragonForce, Killswitch Engage (Their first album is the best, before they changed vocalists), Machine Head, Mad Capsule Markets, Lordi, Blue Man Group, Billy Idol, Rage Against The Machine.

None of that emo or nu-metal crap.

You see that line up there ^ ??? Everyone above it suck because noone mentioned PEAR JAM !!!!!

Try finding "Dubioza Kolektiv". Its a mix of Rage against the Machine, Bob Marley and Massive Attack.
The style often varies from song to song, altho few are a mixture off those 3.

Soilwork, Ensiferum, Diablo, Amorphis, Demon Hunter, In Flames and Sentenced.
Give them a shot, i think you'll like them, if you like metal at all.
