I don't know if you've tried this, but try putting in the 2142 CD and clicking the CoD2 shortcut. If 2142 runs, then just rename the shortcut.

Wait so.. CoD thinks it needs 2142 disc and 2142 thinks it needs CoD disc?

Probably a prank by his friend or something... It shouldn't be doing that.

Hahaha, that is hilarious, I have never seen that before, I have read/seen that programs ask for its CD even though it auto-ran from the inserted CD.

Did you try RedTwizzler's advice? Also check the directory and make sure its the right .exe in there

This really makes no senses...especially both game made by two difference maker…
Try to uninstall both game and reboot and reinstall again, if not there is always a button you can push…the power button.

Or reformat and start all over…did you check any spyware or virus?  You may get hatcked.

I suspect it was something to do with the registry, if you want to re-install it to the normal folder then do these steps:

1) Delete the BF2 folder where ever you have it installed.
2) Do a search for BF2 in all files and folders and delete them all.
3) Use a registry cleaner and search for all BF2142 related entries.
4) Go to run and put "regedit.exe" in the box and press Ok, search for BF2142 and delete all that are there.

Do the same for CoD, then re-install them.
