I am just curious if everyone on these forums just automatically assumes that everyone who says they were previously in the military is full of shit? Please tell me why if you do

Do you disbelieve anyone that posts saying they were in the military?

It's more believable than someone saying they've won a lottery. After all, look at how many military folks there are in the world. Is it so hard to believe that someone posting on a war video game site is or was active duty military?
no. BRITISH ARMY ROYAL ENGINEERS HERE.......CPL WILLIAMS!
Major KEIOS from the USMC...ahm... PLA..wait..MEC...SAS...arrr ... whatever. Reporting back to duty *salutes*
In another forum I met a few people claiming to be veterans, but it turns out one of them was just an army brat that was never actually in and another made it half way through basic training then cried until they let him out with a pension for a "stress disorder" brought on by drill sergeants yelling at him. It's crap that when we fill out forms we can all check the same "veteran" box, but you take the good with the bad.
O.o..... the Germans are coming!![pt] KEIOS wrote:

this happens alot in this day and age, 'kids' these days want to play at soldiers rather than actually giving it a go for real. 8 years service myself and still in, loving it. its a good life.GorillaTicTacs wrote:

If you've served you can tell who's lying
i don't get why people would lie about being in the military...i mean its so easy to do but the only one who fooling is yourself
I honestly don't care. If you've served, good on ya. If you haven't, and you're lying about it, what difference does it make?
"people in ny have a general idea of how to drive. one of the pedals goes forward the other one prevents you from dying"
Some people do..
Most don't
How about creating more than just 2 options for the next poll you do.....

Apparently I've lied about going through basic training 15 years ago and being discharged because I had psoriasis... cuz you know, it's such a bragging point that will bring me much needed attention and fame..even though i never claimed to have been a soldier. lol
I selected NULL vote because some i believe are/were members of armed forces..some are obviously not. it's quite fun actually finding clues to the false claims of some. I also realize it's quite easy to fake it, put pictures in, talk the talk (like your friend does), claim a unit, service record, etc..

I see it like this: if you want to say you're in the military, just join the military (get in shape and learn their rules/rudimentary history first, though; much easier that way).

I voted yes with the understanding that "anyone" is being conditional. Most people here that claim they were in the military seem believable, but there are a few (who I won't name) that seem like they're bullshitting.
Just ask a few questions that people can't wiki or google, and you will get your answer.
like who did you serve with? whats the corps/regts colours/battle honours.....whats the corpts/regts/units history. whats that individual units role in ORBAT. these will suffice.usmarine2007 wrote:

orbat? Those may be too easy to google though.[=][=]DADDYOFDEATH wrote:

orbat = order of battle. the military everything is so easy to look up on nowadays especially since alot of our armed forces are in nato and train with each other and stuff. theres so much someone can see on tv and say ''yeah thats what i do'' sufficed to say there will be people on here that lie and people that dont. its up to you to believe or not.usmarine2007 wrote:

I dont think anyone on here is that low that they would pretend to be something so great, thats too low for I think any person on here to go.WoSL ChemWarrior wrote:

There's a site where you can pull someone's record of schools and most of their awards, but I can't remember for the life of me what its called. They showed it to me in the VA debrief while I was outprocessing, you just type in a name, SSN, and BASD and it'll show a persons full taining, deployment, and awards record (its not the DD-214 or 210 though). It's not linked to the VA system, its something to do with your "military education record", but basically a person's entire service record is there. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please clarify. I found the site by accident again about a year after I got out, but now I can't find it again.
What makes this record different is that it is online for anyone that's been in for the last 10 years and every school listed has the civilian equivelent college credit hours (and course names) listed with the schools.
Anyways, it's a very easy way to verify someone's service, not 100% accurate or updated but enough to see who's lying and who isn't.

Isn't voting 'Of Course' the same as voting 'Yes'?
Otherwise; it depends on what the post. if it's:
"ZomG eyeIZ in TeH ArmIEZZ!!!one"
then, no, i don't believe them.
