Repost - Removed a few names that didn't quite belong in a group with these other figures. And Jesus, because...well...son of God and all that. Unfair competition. Who sticks Jesus between Gorby and Stalin, anyway, as far as importance is concerned? Even if you don't think he existed, it's still like comparing the space shuttle to a paper airplane.

Castro
Hitler (my "respect" level would be higher, if he hadn't been such a fruitloop)

Jesus being top is not a religious thing: for me he was a political activist of his time whose general message has impacted positively on civilisation in general. Churchill was a cunt - but I still have to admire his balls. If you ever holiday in London - visit the Cabinet War Rooms which also houses the Churchill Museum.

That's cheating. Put 'em back.

Whether Jesus existed or not, and I'm assuming he did, I don't think he was the son of God. I fact I think he was probably a bit of a 'fruitloop'.

Wasn't in the rules, and an invalid set at any rate. Cruise is a decent actor, Jordan is a good athlete, Irwin can scare the crap out of any wild beast, and Jesus is one big religious figure. To me, these don't really fit within the realm of war, science and politics. If someone else wants to list figures of 'pulp' culture to rate by readers' respect, that's fine.

Pff. And you're judging this out of which doctrine and which Biblical variant?

Yes it was.

Where were war, science and politics ever mentioned?

Pulp culture? Do you mean Pop culture?

By the fact he claimed to be the son of God. The Bible is just a collection of stories from pre-existing religions anyway.

How do you know he claimed to be the son of God? By what you read in a Bible?

*attention trails to the fact that the thread is being derailed*

It wasn't, though these figures dominated the list. I could ask "who do you respect more, 'The Funk Brothers' or 'George S. Patton'?" That question would drive me nuts, as they're both deserving of respect but in completely different categories.

Pun intended, as this is a written forum. I should've put quotations around it though.

Depending on whether or not you believe he actually existed.

Actually from what billions of people have believed, not directly from the Bible. I find it unlikely everyone would have assumed he was the son of God without him saying so - although it could've been like the life of Brian. In any case I think Jesus was probably quite charismatic, but equally unremarkable.

But anyway - enough of this blatant derailment (that's probably mostly my fault).

I think this has some hilarious aspects here on ranking.

Here's what's funny:
Tom Cruise is worse than Hitler.
Steve Irwin above Jesus (died for animals???)
Michael Jordan above Jesus.
Actually, Michael Jordan above anyone (Sure he created the light bulb, but can he dunk?)

I don't understand:

Tom Cruise is worse than Hitler. At least Hitler didn't make any movies.
Steve was funnier - could be wrong though
Michael Jordan is by definition above everyone... Daaa!!!

edit: and who the fuck is Carlos Mencia anyway?
