The term "grease monkey," meaning mechanic, possibly dates to the Industrial Revolution when children working in factories performed menial tasks, such as lubricating the gears in steam rooms. The ashes coming from the furnaces combined with sweat caused the children to appear dark-skinned. When they "monkeyed around" as children are wont to do...
That's one version I've heard anyway. Probably apocryphal, but kind of cute nonetheless.

In BF1942, the call for an engy is mostly, " I NEED A GREASE-MONKEY!!"
now i understand that term 'greasemonkey'
You only hear calls for support (repair, heal and resupply) if your not that class when you are close to the person requesting the needed support action. If you are the class you will probably recieve notifcation of the need action no matter where you are on the map. Although, I've had a few cases where I didn't recieve notification.
