it's their habit of turning their back on their allies in recent history that has brought the current reputation on them, all of france's problems from asia to haiti turn into someone else's problems, but when their allies are attacked they refuse to share airspace, refuse to assist, even trying to prevent their allies from helping themselves. and yet no matter how many times they turn their back on america and england, you bet your ass we will be there for them
Indeed.
Like in WWII when the french navy was about to be commendeered by the Germans, the captains took the ships out to sea (a good move) But when their ports were captured they had nowhere to dock
England offered the french navy the use of our ports and harbours in return for their cooperation in joint navy manouvers. Basically accepting these french vessels into the British navy, have them sail under joint flags and alllow them to keep their crew/commanders.
Instead of this, the stooopid french tried to dock at their old port (now under german control) because they were too proud to be accepted into another countries navy.
Germany at that time had no real navy, and allowing them to capture these vessels was not an option, they were warned (twice) and then sunk by the British royal navy.
Ever considered the British may have been fighting a war the French didn't want to? Or maybe they didn't have French interests in mind? Ding dong, since when haven't countries been completely selfish?

You obviously don't know your French history. If you did, you'd know they were one of the greatest nations on Earth. As the old "have you ever been to france" thread established, french people are pretty damned nice. Now shut up and pay some respects to the navy that won the American revolution.

Didnt you kill Napoleon and Joan D'Ark??? Lol

And being English, i can say this.... your army was only ever second best.

Im from the isle of wight, and when the french invaded, they did quite successfully.... until they killed enough of the locals to warrent sending the main army down.
The entire french army wich had invaded was killed.
YOU SUCK!
And if that wasnt embassising enough for you. The next time you tried to attack the Isle of Wight (populated purely by farmers and fishermen - you cowardly fucks!)  the french army was wiped out... Not by the British Army... But by the locals.

Thats right, the french army sent to kill innocent civilians, were killed by the farmers and fishermen deffending our homes!

Oh and BTW, we made a hill out of the dead trench. Thats how many you foolishly sent to kill us.

HA!

Lesson learned.... French army were cowards and cant even kill unarmed unorganised peasants. Though they seem hell bent to keep trying.

To be fair, the French nowerdays is completely different though.
They just wont fight or send in their army unless they know they are going to win or not have to do anything at all.
You suffer from a major lack of commitment and morality.

Not only were we better than you then (see above)
Id be ashamed of my homeland if i were French now.
Sigh

The french army is wank. Especially in WW2, comon, who builds a giant defensive wall..... only of half of its border?

The germans think "Hmmmmm, lets go around through belgium"

The french think "He hor he hor, they will not use their brains, they will walk right into our wall"

The french army just has to be made fun of.

Oh look theres a fight!!! "run lads! save yourselves! were spineless women!"

First of all, I'm an American dipshit. Way to go. Second of all, the fact that they fought a common enemy does not mean they were intentionally considering France's best interests. You seem inept at comprehending the complicated interelationships of state agendas.

Honestly, this thread is a pointless hobgob of history know-nothings bashing on the french because it's trendy, ATG is right, the French deserve respect and honor.

The French have had a might military in the past and today.  They helped defeat the British in the American Colonies after being defeated several times by the British.  During WW I they were forced into conflict through treaties and fought to a stalemate with allies against Germany and her allies.  After the cease fire they were soon known as the greatest fighting force on the European continent.

For WWII: When Germany went around "the wall" of bunkers and defenses that France had erricted to prevent invasion they quickly routed the French by attacking them from behind.  This military defeat is a half and half.  The military leaders thought that the woods on their North Eastern boarder would be impossible to navigate an army through.  This is something that was common among many leaders but when you think of an attack strategy you always try and find the weakest point in a line so it was a failure of the French army to see this huge hole in their line.

Vietnam.  We all know that we went in to pull the French out of there, but somehow that fact doesn't matter. They left and we get stuck with a "defeat."  Even though the numbers show we were winning a war of attrition by a large gap.

Point is that France hasn't always gotten their ass handed to them they've done well.  But when they lost, they lost big.

ATG... you want to honor the French for what?  Their recent behavior toward the US in the Iraq situation?  They were in bed with Saddam the whole time.  These guys undermine us the entire time and you post some praise video?

What happened to you?

Has anyone read Michael Moore?
Bring back the US and UK troops, don't complain because other countries didn't want to go to this butchery with you.
You watch too much brainwashing TV.
Remember most countries who didn't go or pulled out did it because they knew there was little threat in Irak and that it would end in massacre, NOT because they didn't want to help USA and GB

The French are good people. Some are jerks, and most car and motorbike drivers there are nutcases, but they're nice people. The owner of this cafe let me go back to the apartment I was staying at to get some cash, he said "You can take an hour to come back if you want" when I said I'd be back in 10 minutes.

I don't see why people flame them for opposing the Iraq war. Iraq wasn't threatening them, hell France is probably one of the more muslim-friendly countries in Europe. It wouldn't have been in their interests to fight in a war that had nothing to do with them. We shouldn't have gone to war with Iraq either, at least not without an extremely fucking good plan on how to handle an insurgency and giving Rummy and Bush a few history lessons on Vietnam. You can't be mad at the French for being smart.

And yes, I do care about our troops. I appreciate the ultimate sacrifices that nearly 3,000 men have made, and the grand sacrifices thousands more have made fighting an unwinnable, stupid, politician's war.
