French Military Deserves To Be Honored

The long and illustrious history of the French military has been much maligned and forgotten over the years. One must remember that at various points in time, they have reigned as the superpower of all of Europe with names such as Joan d'Arc and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
A tally of Frances military defeats and wins. I count 27 defeats, 33 victories and 9 draws.
The Battle of Cameron is still honored every year with with a parade and celebration, honoring the Elan of the French military forces. This parade his held in Mexico by mexicans.
The History of the French Empire.

Just want to point out to the pilers on who love to bash France, ( and who isn't guilty of that? ) that the French have some bad assed troopers.
Perhaps they have just learned a better lesson of when to fight than we have.

Well, whatever. It just seems like they have been kicked in the nutz in every major conflict, but maybe I just watch too much TV. They aren't very popular here in the states, which is probably where a lot of that comes from.

The only reason the French are made fun of is because they were overrun many times in the last century.
And that America had to save them numerous times and that Germany overthrew them with little effort during WWII.

I having nothing against the French, but think their effort sometimes is underwhelming in fights.

One can hardly point to the Battle of France as the only occurance of German might defeating their enemy swiftly. "Many times" is hardly a correct statement, if you are referring to both World Wars, which would mean twice. However, other foreign forces were present at those losses, and other countries suffered similar defeats. It's not exactly unique to lose to Nazi Germany so quickly, as many found out. Neither did America have to save them "numerous times"- Once, do you mean? Indeed, the liberation of France in the Second World War was due to the effort of Americans, but also Canadians, British, and even French who distinguished themselves fought in that campaign. But you cannot hang onto that one instance as an eternal debt to the United States.

I could do similar things, and point out military failures of any nation, but that would be ignoring the many military victories of each nation. Besides, the French did indeed fight with full effort against the enemy. Simply because they lost, as most nations did against Nazi Germany, is no reason to dismiss them as militarily weak.
