It might be running hot, download nvidia ntune and check after you have been playing for a bit.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.18.00.html
After you install it go to Performance/Adjust Gpu and at the button it should show your temp.

I think it has something to do with tempurature because the more I play the worse it gets.

I have the latest drivers for my card. I thought it was that for a while but eventually wiped it off the list.

EDIT: What is a reasonable core tempurature range for my (or similar) GPU?

Damn, I... had something for this

yeh shit like that happens on my 6600GT 256mb, and mine is definately heat related because it hasnt done it the whole winter - now summer and it did it the other day. I dont know what a reasonable temperature range is, because like i said - mine runs too hot. I guess just some kind of third party cooling would do the trick but i am too lazy to get any and it isnt that frequent.

Mine idles at around 40-42 degrees (celcius), not sure about under load

EDIT: example picture

Mine idles around 45-48 degrees celcius, I should check out the temp under pressure.
Unlike yours, mine happens every day after the game(Bf2, BF2142, C&C Generals and a few more) loads a new map etc, but less graphic intensive games seem to work fine.

It a heat problem.  Seen it MANY times.  You need better cooling.

Mine is 30-34 C under load.

Why don't you try the cheap and easy way? Get rid of the side cover and put there a fan. I cannot of another cheap yet so helpful solution at this moment.

My GPU's always at ~60°C, doesn't matter if it's under load or not and I don't have any kind of problems

Yeah. I do that in summer. You just have to keep cleaning the dust out more often without the cover on.

If it isnt a heating problem, wtf is it?!?!?!
arrggghhh it pains me so...

EDIT: I should have mentioned this earlier, but it is an AGP card not a PCI-E.

If it is not heat I have no idea.  You graphics are tears bad.  Number one (And two and three) reason is heat.

Replace you drivers, clean out you comp, etc.

1-3 are nigh on certainly overheating.

http://www.overclock.co.uk/product.php? … p;view=rel <- should sort you out, don't be afraid of replacing the cooling block, it's piss easy.

4 I'm not really certain on, could be overheating too but might not be. Only way to tell is sort your cooling and see if it happens again really.

Really?  What pump, rad, and fans are in your wc setup?  What other block(s) are you running?

Yeah I know it's a shocker of a problem, wouldn't wish it on the enemy team (or would I? ).

It is a heat problem indeed, I experienced that when overclocking my 6600GT (though it never got THAT bad!).
Could it be that your card is not actively cooled?

Oh, and btw: That resolution is not at minimum, is it?

If thats a regular 6600 and that is 2142, Im amazed its even running. If you look in EA's specs of the game it says at the bottom that a regular 6600 wont be supported in the game. So if thats wht you have, im amazed its running at all.

But if thats Not what you have, then you really do have a heat problem. taking the side cover off and not even useing a fan will cure this, If you have enough exhaust fans going, you need not worry about dust all that much, because the air is moveing about alot more.

Plisken... WAIT!!!

I had the EXACT same issue as you do and I have pretty much exactly the same setup as you.

MY SPECS:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Memory: 1.25 GB RAM
Hard Drive: 250 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7600gs AGP

And I got this problem after buying the 7600gs.

But, for the life of me, I can't think how to fix it....

I did a bit brainstrain, but I 'Think' this is how I fixed it...

*  START-->Settings-->Control Panel
*  D/click "Display" Icon... Goto the Troubleshoot TAB and on that page you will see:

Enable Write Combining

with a tick box next to it, and I think you will find that it is ticked.

Remove the tick, click OK. I'm not sure from memory, but I think you'll have to reboot and you should be fine.

Please let me know if this works for you or not.

Cheers M8!!

my 7800gt is around 43C at idle. i'm not sure what it is at load, but i haven't run into any temp problems.

did you consider possibly RMA'ing it?
