I don't know if you guys have seen this but gamespot took some screens of some popular games on both consoles and overlayed them. If you mouse over the screen shots you can see the PS3 shot. Some were pretty close and hardly noticeable but surprisingly enough the Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games they examined.  But like they said "The real graphics battle will likely come next year.".

The Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games we examined. The 360's biggest victories were in Madden 07 and Fight Night Round 3, where the differences in texture detail and lighting stood out in our comparison shots. We couldn't capture this in the screenshots, but the Xbox 360 games generally offered better framerates too.

We're going to give the PS3 the benefit of the doubt in this initial round since developers might need more time to figure out how to maximize performance from the Cell and the RSX. If you look at the Xbox 360's first Madden game, Madden 06, you'll notice that it doesn't offer very realistic stadium shadows, either. The trouble with buying a console at launch is that you often have to wait for the second or third generation of games for the system to fulfill its potential. The PS3 didn't beat the 360 in this first comparison, but the games do look fine for first-generation titles. The real graphics battle will likely come next year.

I think it will get better for the PS3.. it's just for all the hype it falls short ATM.

it just looks not as good because hte pixels are much lighter on the ps3 than on the xbox, but compare F1 2007 and Call of duty with the xbox - ps3 owns it then

The reason I posted those was to show how bad the Wii is pounding the PS3 in terms of sales. Production has a big part to do with this but also the fun of playing the console. Remember? Thats the purpose of games. Like I said I expect it to get better for the PS3 but i just found all this to be interesting considering all the hype.

just got done reading the entire article. for first gen games, that isn't too bad at all. they are basically comparing xbox360 2nd gen to ps3 first gen. i think the ps3 did alright. like it said in the article, the game devs need to figure out how to use the capabilities, and that won't be for a little while.

regardless, i've got my heart set on the ps3. GT 5 should make me spooge.

I don't know if it's just me but for NFS, only one I looked at, the PS3 graphics looked a bit better. The lighting was darker but I noticed more detail in those than in XBox360 shots. Also, one thing that made it look a little strange was that the PS3 shots looked more widescreen but the size of the image didn't change so it looked distorted.

In Need for Speed Carbon the one difference I noticed was the background on xbox 360 was lighter than on the PS3, stupidly light if you ask me but the car was darker and less reflective on the xbox 360 than on the PS3.

In COD3 the one difference I noticed was the picture on the xbox360 was darker than on the PS3 and slightly too much colour.

In Madden the PS3 colour was more defined, tbh it looked better. I know one was taken in a "day" game and one in an "evening" game.

Marvel just looks like a fucking PS2 or xbox game.

NBA 2k7 looked very similar in both, the PS3 image looked like it had better reflections again.

Thats all im going to do on the games. As you can see most of the difference is in the game developers choice, they choose how bright it is, how the contrast is, etc. They set the base values.

Now Ill point out that the PS3 core is very hard to program, I have no idea how to program one, it's hard enough programming a pentium core I can tell you. The PS3 is also in its first set of games and the xbox 360 is on its second. This gives the Xbox 360 the advantage, I think in half a year it may be a totally different story, the PS3 core is a revolution, but it will take some time to work out how to get it working very well.

This comparison IMO is very poor, as Vilham said, the 360 is on its 2nd gen of games where PS3 is on its first.

I'm a regular visitor to Gamespot and its forums and there is A LOT of bias towards the 360. They always seem to post bad news on the PS3 and Wii and NEVER post any negative 360 stuff (like PS3 outselling it already in japan)

The Resistance: FOM review confirmed any speculation, where the reviewer said "Rock-solid design borrows the best aspects from the best first-person shooters; outstanding presentation, featuring great weapons and believable environments; replayable campaign pits you against an aggressive, fairly intelligent foe; fully featured multiplayer mode offers good variety and supports up to 40 players."

Watch the video review and the guy even compares it to being as good as half life 2, but it still gets a 8.6 final score where as Halo 2 and I quote "Disappointing story.; short campaign.; some unsightly graphical issues" and still gets a 9.4


Gamespot refused to note that the boxers in FNR3 were MUCH more detailed than the 360 and Game Radar said this "Whatever the case, the PS3 version of Fight Night Round 3 noticeably improves on the 360 version. The colors are more lifelike, and the boxers are a lot more detailed than ever, with twitching veins, expressive faces and rippling layers of muscle that shift and move under their increasingly sweaty, bruised skins."

Yet GS decides to focus on stuff like the crowd in the background (who cares what the crowd looks like?)

I stated that I only used GS for the forums and other sites such as IGN and Eurogamer for reviews and news only to come back later to see my post had been changed by a mod to "stop wasting our bandwidth" which I think is childish and pathetic.

I no longer use Gamespot whatsoever.

The PS3 is selling at roughly a $500 loss. The Blu-Ray in the PS3 is incomparable to stand-alone players (it's practically useless - please get a stand-alone if you even LIKE Blu-Ray). Also, Blu-Ray is definitely inferior and more expensive than HD-DVD (hell, DVD may survive these two formats) and thus will fail. Sony just can't market new products well anymore...it's a shame. They WERE a good company but they've lost it all. I can see them going bankrupt within the next decade and with what they're doing at the moment, I can't really say I'll miss them.

Its a $100 loss, which is less than the original xbox lost on each unit. As many have said before in support of the xbox, the profit is made from game contracts and gaming equipment, the same applies to the PS3, we won't have any fucking double standards here, it just makes you look stupid.

This is somewhat retarded. Ps3 was just released. It took the 360 a years worth of development after release to start producing decent games...none of the launch titles were worth it IMO. So to compare is just retarded. Get it? Good.
