Unlikely.
He was being sarcastic, he hates the UN as far as I know.

I had some fundamentalist Christian nutter telling me I was going to die and "rot in the fires of hell for eternity' because I wouldn't listen to his drivel while out shopping last week. Religious fundamentalists have been ranting threats about converting to their particular form of mind numbing control for thousands of years.
Just because the leader of Iran is spouting it, it doesn't warrant anything other than the usual response. Ignore them and they will shut up.
As a Christian I will apologize for the "nutter" you spoke to.  He should have been more sensitive in his terminology.  However, that does not diminish the reality of the existence of hell.  The big difference between Christianity and Islam is this - we do not make people vanish from the earth because they believe differently.  Radical Islam does.  They murder those who refuse to convert in order to further their religion.  We simply tell people what we believe rather than threatening to kill them.  A very large contrast in my opinion.
The reality of HELL, is a logical contradiction to anything God would stand for. For him to create the existence or to let the existence of a living anti-God would seem improbable in a world were god wishes mercy upon you and salvation.

So if for example God is all knowing, how could he willing create a Lucifer only for him to fall at a later time and bring down man kind.

You just compared Fundamental Islam with run of the mill Christianity so your comparison is basically a failure. Ask me if a fundamentalist Christian will not tell me I'm going to hell for disagreeing with any of their major points and I'll tell you they will. Why, well cause they are just that fundamentalist

If you want to debate the reality of hell, I suggest a new thread, so this one doesn't get hijacked.

Ok, then lets compare the response of a member of radical Islam and a "fundamentalist" Christian.  A "fundamentalist" Christian may tell you you're going to hell, but he won't try to send you there personally by killing you, like a member of radical Islam would do.

Ok, then lets compare the response of a member of radical Islam and a "fundamentalist" Christian.  A "fundamentalist" Christian may tell you you're going to hell, but he won't try to send you there personally by killing you, like a member of radical Islam would do.
Let's see, we have mass induced suicides by fundamentalist Christian cults, plenty of abortion clinic bombings, religiously motivated murder and other hate crimes, and the poster child for Christian fundie fuckwittedness Timmy McVeigh.

How many Christian fundie leaders are just chomping at the bit ready to unleash their army of little brain-washed Christian soldiers on the world and what thin line keeps them in check?  It must be those "liberal activist judges"...but I digress.  You want scary?  Go to a Christian youth rally sometime where they do a mock government raid on the place to show the kiddies how "under attack" their religious values are.  Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

The main answer is that there is NO difference between religious radicals of any stripe, Christian radical, Islamic radical, Jewish Zionist, Zen Buddhist...ummm...Tiger-style kung fu expert.  By the same token, there is a wide array of religiosity in the Middle east just like in the US, full of Islamic moderates and people that are born Islamic but haven't seen the inside of a mosque in decades.  There are also Muslim "fundies" that will shake a wagging finger at you or harrass any woman walking down the street in a skirt, but this is NOT the same as someone motivated to get violent.

Now, what we are seeing in Iraq and Afghanistan at the moment is a massive mobilization of RESISTANCE to an occupying power mixed with an ethnic hatred of one another.  It's like Northern Ireland in the early 80's but with about 5 million more people concentrated in the same place and an army that can't keep control at all, as well as NO legitimate government or law and order.  Religion is just one of many different tools to mobilize resistance and add a face of "legitimacy" to it, something for the common man to understand.   Basically, a propoganda tool.

I'll give you an illustration...I walk in to a small town USA and stand on a soap box in front of the city hall.
"The Saudis are buying the only bank in town and they just spent enough money to get their mayor elected."
People will shrug for the most part, some folks might get riled up a little at the thought of foreign control, but it won't be too bad.  Most people would just go about their daily lives as if nothing is going on.  Now, if instead I were to say:
"That muslim bank owner just took a dump on the nativity scene!" and made sure every church-goer in town was told this by their priest/minister, the town would be up in arms.  Buildings would get burned, and the National Guard would be called in quick.
