I am very conservative, and very against wasteful spending.

I feel that a lot of good things have happened in Iraq, and that in the long run they will be better off for our military's efforts.

At the same time, however, I can see a lot of other places that money could have been used for the benefit of Americans.  Damn that is a lot of loot.

Alternitive energy is a joke (with the possible, but unlikely, exception of hydrogen fuel cells).  Free gas for 4 years?  Yeah right.  Our government would have pissed it away regardless.  None of us would have seen a penny of that money with or without a war.
Well, I wouldn't go that far.  War is perhaps the most wasteful way that the government spends our money.  I'd rather they just not spend much money at all, but if they're going to spend it anyway, alternative energy research makes more sense than war.
Agreed.

Which movie is this quote from? Karma for the first to get it.

“You Americans think that money is power.  Money is not power, conviction is power.  Whoever is the most committed wins.”
Syriana?

Nope.  It is, however, a movie that involves the Muslims.  Quite a prophetic movie at that.

Libertarianism is a form of liberalism.

Classical liberalism.  That's only halfway the same as modern American liberalism.  When Americans typically think of "liberal" they think of socially liberal views with socialistic economic views.  Classical liberalism keeps the liberal social views, but it favors free market economics.

In other words, you could say I'm half Democrat, half Republican.

Then again, when you figure Libertarian isolationist views into foreign policy stances, I guess that actually makes me 2/3 Democrat.  Isolationism was ironically what Republicans used to support.

Except that liberalism has always been against capitalism.

There are two standpoints: maximum freedom, minimum interference (Liberalism), and minimum freedom, maximum interference (Conservativism).  Libertarianism fits into the first.

Classical Liberalism is a phrase used in economics to refer to Laissez-faire politics.  It is very much pro-capitalism.

I'm not sure what kind of liberalism you're talking about, but it sounds more like socialism or anarcho-syndicalism.

Libertarianism operates under the principle that the freest societies are socially liberal and economically capitalistic.  The polar opposite is Populism, which favors social conservatism and economic protectionism.

Uh, no.  Protectionism is a subset of capitalist theory, favoured by the US.  Liberalism is, and always has been, a broad name for a subset of beliefs in which individual freedom and minimum government interference is favoured.  Libertarianism is one of these.

Do you pay taxes? Do you own a house? If you don't you shouldn't be commenting on world affairs bieng that everything going on is funded by tax payers. Its the tax payers opinions that matter, not people still lliving at home with ma and pa. If you are a grown up my apologies.
I won't even justify your ignorance with a respectable response.
But you did anyway.
