you were around in Lincolns day to not like him? Southern independence? BS. the south would've fallen apart if there was a northern/british boycott on southern textiles. Believe it or not, the south was almost entirely dependent on outsiders for their livelihood.
Lincoln wasn't interested in the interests of the slaves? He freed them, dumbass? Last i checked, few, if any, slaves wanted to remain slaves. Prove to me how slavery wasnt, or cant be connected, to being one of the major reasons behind the Civil War.
Did you know that Britain offered to side with the South, if they had agreed to end slavery? Of course, being the backbone of their economy, they couldn't go along with that.
So, you think Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation had no political motivation to it, do you?
How do you explain the subsequent repercussions of Reconstruction? Essentially, the North put blacks into positions of power in the South, only to see the same people killed or harassed by Southerners. The North really didn't care about the interests of blacks any more than the South did. There was plenty of racism in the North, but it wasn't usually as blatant as slavery.
The point I'm making here is that neither side was really as virtuous as people would have you believe. If you educate yourself in American history beyond the politically correct drivel most schools espouse, you'll see that it's about economics, not civil rights.
