I think Dany Carey is the best drummer when it comes to Technique albeit overall technique + speed and sound I vote Pete Sandoval.

Danny Carey probably would almost be better called a percussionist than a drummer. The guy's kit is pretty elaborate, plays some amazing tabla live and as the rest of TOOL, don't use simple timings, Does an awesome job making is drum kit rock but also knows how to make the most subtle sounds when the songs get quiet. Pretty diverse drummer.
