I'm always very critical of Israel. But when the Israelis aren't out bulldozing Palestinian homes, pulling down their olive trees and bombing Lebanon, they get up to a lot of good stuff too.

I bet most of you didn't know that the Core 2 Duo was developed at Intels Haifa R&D facility for example. Israeli contributions to medical technology have also been very important and Israel has produced a couple of Nobel prize winners in this field.

They've even had some relatively decent leaders. Rabin seemed like a pretty good Israeli PM, if we had someone like him in power today perhaps Israel would not be in such a dire state. Shame he got assasinated by Israelis opposed to peace. It is also a shame that he resigned during his first term to be succeeded by Begin (erstwhile head of Irgun, a terrorist organisation).

A lot of bad stuff gets said about Israel (not without good reason). This thread is a chance to post GOOD stuff about Israel.

Well, since most major Israeli developments have been in medical research I think that's a good thing. I was also trying to highlight that not ALL Israelis try to be complete cunts to Palestinians (just lots of them). It is the current (and most of the previous) Israeli administration I am opposed to not Israel itself.

Most of the Nazi scientists who helped America win the space race I would class as good guys. They weren't necessarily evil, just ruled by an evil corrupt regime. I would imagine that many of the German scientists working on the space program were actually defectors who didn't enjoy life under Nazi rule much.

Revisionist love to say this whole problem began in 1948. What about two thousand years of documented persecution pogroms and attempts at geocide? Still you have in this modern age otherwise civilised people rationaly debating the destruction of another nation as if it's long overdue, amazing.

I have long studied ww2 and in particular the German quest for the anniliation of the Jews. It's abosultely amazing that so many people united in such a horrible murderous plot to rid Europe of Jews. It wasn't just the germans that engaged in the slaughter, they just got credit for holding the flag under which it was done.
I often trip on the fact that it was only 60 or so years ago and that some of the people involved in mass shootings and deportations still walk the earth. It's really hard to believe people would do those things to their fellow man, but they did, and it started with a group think hate mentality.
Just like we are seeing today.

Some of the most advanced automatic licenceplate & driver recognition tools are Israeli made or derivatives from them. Thats why automatic speed-control, congestion prevention and other applications in that area are making it easier for us (westeners) to move about.

I knew Israel were very big on agriculture (there's always loads of Israeli food in supermarkets, not that I buy any of it), I didn't know about desalination, but I know Egypt do a lot of that so it makes perfect sense.

I love the addition of rear view mirrors to F-16s.
