Terrorists know that they'll recieve extra security attention due to the way they look, they'll work out how to cicumvent it. This is why profiling at airports has not and will not stop terrorist attacks.

I disagree but fine, if you are so repulsed by profiling, wiretapping the Patriot Act, etc............What is your ingenious plan for national security against terrorism?.:XDR:.PureFodder wrote:

I am not talking about profiling ONLY at the damn airport. I am talking about profiling at every border entering and exiting this country. As soon as we get attacked by blue haired little old ladies with walkers by the droves then we should start profiling their asses as well. Until then, we should stick with taking a HARDER look at those people that fit the profile of the memebers of Islamic terror groups bent on our destruction
I won't comment on how I feel about it in other aspects of society....
Lowing, you're clearly ignoring the points I make here, man. Can you not see that technology is the answer? Profiling is something you do if you don't have the proper tools available at the time. These machines are readily available. We just have to purchase and install them.
Cops will continue to profile people on the street, and I understand why they do it. Profiling in airports just isn't necessary anymore, because it's a more controlled environment that only needs these machines in place.
Like I asked, UNTIL these machines are installed d owe have your blessing to profile or not??Turquoise wrote:

I cant believe 98 people support racism.

Jonsimon, I understand your concern, but we are trying to defend against more than just "98 people." It's sad that things have come to this, but once the proper technology is in place, profiling will be a thing of the past.

Profiling is somewhat racist -- I just see it as a necessary evil. There's no need to pretend otherwise.
Bullshit. Profiling is NOT racist at all........If there is a witness that saw a 6' 6", 300 lb white guy steal his car, nobody will be pulling over 5" 10' 180 black guys.Turquoise wrote:

Profiling is a way to reduce likely suspects in situation, nothing more...........If it were Japanese that were commiting these acts, we wouldn't be singling out Middle Easterners. It has NOTTHING to do with race. It has EVERYTHING to do with description, and past experience.
Somehow it has to do with race, you mentioned white, black, Japaneses and Middle Easterns in your post.lowing wrote:

Yup I did, I also mentioned height and weight, and combined I used them to DESCRIBE an individual NOT label him as inferior to me.sergeriver wrote:

Better go look up racism in the dictionary, I am pretty sure profiling is not part of the definition.

I think everyone's luggage and personal effects should be treated with the same rigorous searching techniques. Treat everyone equally and you don't offend any one group more than anyone else. Make everyone arrive three hours before departure so there's enough time for the necessary searches to be carried out. Job done.sergeriver wrote:
After 9/11 the traveler boarding an airplane encounters something quite different: an insistence that everyone is equally suspect. There is some profiling working at the moment, but it only includes observation techniques. What do you think?
No need for profiling.
Your example isn't an example of profiling.lowing wrote:

If after this crime the police were told to stop all 300 lb white guys in cars whenever they saw one, that'd be profiling.
YUP, but NOT racist now is it?...............Thanks for the help..:XDR:.PureFodder wrote:

But in that case there was a witness providing a descripition: you're talking about pulling over 300lb white guys every time a car is stolen.lowing wrote:

I sure am, if cars were continually stolen by people fitting that discription................Now, swap stolen cars for terror attacks, and swap 300 lb white guys for Middle Easterners...........Same thing..Profiling you bet, RACIST, no way.Bubbalo wrote:

So you think it would be perfectly appropriate for police to question every 300lb white guys they say just in case they'd stolen a car, regardless of whether they had information on whether there had even been a car stolen?
Guilty until proven innocent, law `American style`.lowing wrote:

That is irrelevant to the point I am making, which is, PROFILING is NOT RACIST. Racism is a belief that one race is superior to another. That is not what profiling suggests, and you know it. In the case of profiling for terrorists, race is used as a descriptive, along with 100 other descriptives. It is NOT used as a reason.Bubbalo wrote:

It just so happens that Islamic, Middle Easterners are the ones threatening us now, so it makes no sense to look for, or suspect 80 year old white women. I made that point earlier in the thread and it was ignored.
But to answer your question, I think it would be perfectly alright to take a closer look at the 300lb white guy when you pull him over for speeding, IF he fits the description of the string of perpetrators that have been stealing all the cars...........I.E. Middle Easterners that act goofy in airports and on airplanes. I also recall several inncedents where WHITE people get the shit kicked out of them for acting goofy and irregular on airplanes now. It isn't racism....
