What's with the minister?  She keeps telling everyone there's nothing wrong with Austrlia's broadband, and yet it's probably one of the slowest in the Western developed countries!  For such service, the prices are far too high and the connections aren't always reliable.

I know someone who works in a hospital radiology section, and he often complains that with the large files needed to be transferred every day, the internet is just not up to it.  Sometimes it's easier to physically transport the file.

My cousins took one glance at our internet speed and scoffed, saying theirs was way faster for a much smaller price.

Also, Telstra's internet customer service is crap.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Ah, heh, sorry, just a little annoyed at the crap speeds available in Australia.  I need some sedatives.  Still, anyone else feeling the same way?

supply and demand. we don't have enough people to make it affordable. company's are there to make money first. they aren't going to lower prices when they don't have to.

I hear ya man. I hear ya.

I won't recount my saga getting ADSL connected for the first time in Janyary. If I do I really will need sedatives.

It least by May it only crapped out when it rained REALLY heavily.

And as far as Telstra having bad service goes, if you use any of the others you have to put up with their bad service while you listen to them say they can't do anything untill Telstra fixes the problem...

I have iiNet 24MBit internet (ADSL2+). It is capped at 60Gb (20peak, 40 off peak). All that for $70AU.

Before that I had some shitty 256kb internet... and I was paying the same price. Lol...

Realistically, the distance from the exchange means I only get 8MBit/s. For that reason I say fuck Telstra's lack of infrastructure. If I was 200m closer, I would be getting 12MBit/s or more.

Is it true that if the Telstra infrastructure goes down, then so do all the others?

Mostly, yes, Telstra owns all? (well, most) phone lines in Australia.

Telstra sucks...i'm with them and paying 80$ a month for 512kbps/128 with a 10 gig cap.

Only now is australia starting to get ADSL2, and most areas cant have it yet .

For all those Aussies, go Internode adsl2+ $60 a month, and 20gig limit, but with full speed gaming on their servers.

$60 a month, for 20g limit and 1500 / 256 speed on TPG. As soon as anyone installs a DSLAM in my exchange, I'll be switching to ADSL 2+.

Yes Internode, put your fabulous piece of speed infrastructure in my exchange right now, you know you want to...

The other shifty thing is that most ADSL2+ plans require you have VoiP as well. I pay $10 for it. That changes my max speed from 3MBit/s to 24MBit/s.
