Recently a Chinese sub surfaced withing range of a U.S. aircraft carrier this week.  What message is China trying to send the United States?

doesn't mean anything other than our oft critiscized sub research budget was justified

The message is

We own you. If this was war you would be dead.

In other words that screening force around the carrier screwed up. There is no way that sub should be there or anywhere within 100 miles.
The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'

doesnt mean shit. sounds like someone rattling their saber to me, but they know who the power is. all that carrier needed to do was deploy its seahawks to drop sonobuoys and that thing would have been a paper weight....

it doesn't mean the battle group didn't know they were there, a virginia could easily have been shadowing it, that may have even been why it surfaced if the cruisers and tending sub had started aggressively tracking it

Maybe it was a really bad fart that someone released on the sub.  A stinky Chinese food fart might be cause for surfacing and ventilating...

I know my GF has cleared half the house before.

Bad move. You're supposed to take the blame, saying that "No honey, your farts smell like roses."

Neither article tells this story.  I am a fmr Fast Attack Sonar Technician stationed out of Pearl Harbor, and I can tell you that "enemy" submarines (which is any submarine not designated to the area) have the ability to be in the area by nature of their mission, but they are usually detected and chased out of the area.

Any submarine that surfaces while on station usually means that they are having a very bad day!

BTW, they do not need to surface to ventilate, especially in an area where there are warships!  Bad fart or not.

yeah i've been looking up articles on the surfacing, none have anything real concrete as far as what went on, just alot of hearsay and speculation. subs do not surface, it was a diesel one after all, which means it needs batteries underwater, and since it's their newest model i doubt they would want it to pop up in front of navy recon paparazzi

My household doesn't roll like that.  We tend to push each other into the path of oncoming trains and call it love.

I can't complain though. She plays video games, bought herself a gaming CPU, loves Family Guy, puts up with my shit, and still brings me lunch to work.

This post is a complete waste of time. The sources do not back up the claims. I challenge the OP to present the exact quote from either article to back up his claims.

It might be difficult to do so. The first article is dated January 16th, 2005. I only skimmed it, but I bet it has nothing about a sub surfacing. The second article says nothing about a sub surfacing, but it does say that:

the Fox News article wrote:

For the first time, the exercises were opened to a 10-member delegation of top Chinese military officers.

...senior U.S. military officials said that are cautiously trying to mend the rift with Beijing through person-to-person engagement.

Adm. William J. Fallon, the top U.S. commander in the Pacific, said before the exercises began that implicit in the invitation for the Chinese to observe the exercises was the expectation that China would reciprocate.

"I think that would be the logical step," said Capt. Terry Kraft, who showed the delegation around the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. "We showed them everything we do from top to bottom. We gave them a very good, transparent look at how we do operations out here."
Again - nothing to back up your claims.
