our total cruelty to animals is equal to a culture like the spanish. A few bulls dying in a ring does not compare to the various animals living in boxes that you will eat as an american (or spannish person). The difference is that it figures prominently in their culture. from your point of view they glorify in a cruel way the sad existence of livestock. im sure from their point of view we seem a little creepy because so many of us are more or less in denial about the gory reality of eating meat.

Go search about nerve system of bulls. They don't have feelings in those shoulder blade, but that bull wasn't supposed to spew blood, they don't just waste the bull... they eat it after the fight.

i have slaughtered animals on a farm, hunted, and worked in various meat plants around the southeast and seen how the big "evil" meat industries kill their livestock, from broken necks (poultry) to electrodes placed on either side of the head (pigs) i can tell you that what is bought in a store is killed in much faster and more humane ways than those bullfights. even when hunting the whole point is to bring the animal down as fast as possible. if you don't want to believe that hunters are trying to do so out of the goodness of their hearts (you will rarely see anyone more concerned about animal cruelty than an avid, responsible hunter) it just makes more sense so you don't have to trapse about the woods for hours tracking a wounded animal.

The meat industry is almost essential because it provides jobs, and of course, food to lots of people. And as Kracker said, they kill animals in a more humane way than they do in bull-fighting so as you said, it doesnt compare to tauromachy
and the "gory reality" of eating meat is present in Spain too, I dont think they think we are bad because we eat meat and keep them together before they die from a .05 seconds hit.
It's also because you don't want the animal pumping stress hormones around their body - it makes the meat tough.kr@cker wrote:
