BF2S Forums Wal-Mart: good or bad?

Walmart sucks.  They monopolize small economies, run family businesses into the ground, and provide benefits packages to their employees that are so pathetic they have to supplement them with welfare.

Also, the Walton family is one of the stingiest Fortune 500 families in America when it comes to charity.  So yes, Walmart sucks.

I think their lack of respect for communities they rape shows their agenda..pure greed.  Likewise, their benefit structure and poor track record for employment law adhesion make them very hated.  Oh, they also outsource many of their products (including from child labor and other unethical labor sources) while portraying the idea that everything is american made or pro-america.

They are GREED embodied within large walls.  Just google some of their criticisms.  I do not shop there.  The money I save will be taken back just in the form of taxes paying for their employee benefits, the bankruptcy of neighboring businesses shut down because of this inconsiderate business.

Holy crap I AGREE with you!!!!!!!  Believe it or not, we have 6 socalled supercenters within 20 miles of eachother. 20 Square Miles i might add i mean some are 4-5 miles away from each other. They have single handedly run every store and company out of town. They build there stores to target the Middle to upperclass Housing tarcs in the subburbs, while the inner city and less densely populated sections(like south of me) dont have ANY store anymore(nothing that you can buy anything but food at) withing 15-30 miles of them all. They Forced Kmart, Hills, Aims, Everyone out of my neck of the woods and left vacant lots and stores. Evil bastards. Its a frigging ghost town!

Hah! Like that means squat. At the CVS I went to today they were taking donations of CVS Brand Peppermint candies to give to the troops in Iraq. Sure, it's a 'charity' and a 'donation', but they're not giving anything to anyone, they're making a profit off of it. You're buying their candy, which they make a profit off of, and you're giving it to them to donate, which allows them to take a tax return as well. Anyone can look charitable and nice if they want to.

Very true, but unions are crap anyways. The theory of paying someone to speak for you is ridiculous.

i actually work for this "evil corporation of satan" you all hate. My last retail job was with a Union based company, I paid my dues every month and when it came time for me to need them they were about as effective as a 3 year old with ADD. I was given very little opportunity to settle things with my previous management and had troubles many times. At Wal-Mart, however, management MUST listen to everything I say. I have had managers stop what they are doing to ask how I was doing and stick up for me. True some products at our store are not the greatest but its your bad for getting those specific things. You all also talk about wages. I make $3 an hour more at Wal-Mart after 5 months with them then I did with my previous union job after 2 and a half years, I get paid holidays unlike my union job, I get paid sick days unlike my union job, I get a bonus every 3 months unlike my union job AND I have the ability to purchase stock at a discounted rate. So, you can all go fuck yourselves because you dont know shit about what you are talking. Going with popular opinion makes you all look like dip shits. Just like our smiley says "have a nice day"

The only Wal-Mart I've been into (during my holiday in the USA) had a McDonalds inside. There was one in the capark. That ain't bad - it's just fucked up.

The average wage of a Wal Mart employee is over 10 bucks an hour. Well above minimum wage.
