This is an interesting find.  If you are still thinking DEMS are non-supportive of the troops, and if you think Republicans are supportive of troops...see how they actually voted!  This site grades representatives on their VOTING so there's no ambiguity.  And not surprisingly, dems were more supportive.  Fools like George Macaca Allen and other wannabe troops supporters all got D grades.

I must say i love hearing people talk as if the people on this forum represent a perfect cross section of all democrats that are now in power. lol keep asking us what "we" are going to do, but i think you need to realize we live in a country where the decisions are made vicariously through our representatives...so umm maybe ask them perhaps you might get lucky and get a response if you donate enough money to them

The entire system is pretty fucked....if you don't have money they won't spare the time to listen to you. Like somonebody else already said once you get to capital hill shit changes and you pretty much start doing your own thing.

It's nice to see some people on the left don't oppose a ban on handguns, or any weapons for that matter. It's even more nice that at least one of them thinks the Brady Bill was a joke. I hope they won't try and take our guns away because it is a constitutional right for me to own a gun, no matter what category it may be, handgun to assault rifle to hunting guns, I own them all. I'm just cautious because Feinstien's is a Dem, and she's one of the people behind the banning of all assault weapons in California, and I think she might have been behind the .50 cal ban too, but don't hold me to that one. If that group can get any momentum rolling I'm just not crazy about it. But back on topic, I am very anxious to see how the left will handle themselves now that they are in power and under the same spotlight they put the right. It will be an interesting time coming up, all I have to say is don't screw this chance up, you might not get another one for a long time.

What the dems should do is open up the immagration for the arab countries cause it's dangerous over there.. Now this will probably scare all the mexicans back to mexico, then after all the mexicans move back we'll lock up all the Arabs thanks to the patriot act..

As opposed to continuing down a path that isn't working, turning this country into a christo-facist state, and erase our 4th amendment rights?

1. Are you just going to raise taxes and only confirm activist judges?

2. What are you going to DO about immigration.

3. What are you going to do about health care that DOES NOT involve raising taxes??

4. How about gun control?  Siding with John Conyers and Pelosi for a Nat'l Handgun ban? Think that'll work? It didn't in D.C.....

5. Abortion?

6. Gay Marriage?

7. Education? Just going to raise taxes as usual?

8. Oh almost forgot Iraq? Phased withdrawl, complete withdrawl.

9. Impeaching proceedings for the Pres? For what exactly, and don't you do say lying or I will direct you to a dictionary.

I've heard enough of your guys' garbage on your ads, now talk about yourselves, your values, and what you plan to support or change now that the ball is in your court.

And don't be extreme, or I'll slap you with a herring.

Thanks for your input and all I can say is Good luck, all eyes are on you now, and now you guys are going to be scrutinized and picked apart just like you did to us when we had majority.
What did the Republicans do about the first eight things you noted. Squat. We really need to get rid of this two party system. All it does is divide the nation.

Quick question: How does this nation pay for its military, highway system, political system, etc, etc? TAXES.
The price we pay for living in the US of A. I'll pay it. Will you?

A bit conceited aren't we? Would you like a cookie so you can get over your pain? Life is so hard for you, please let me massage your feet you poor baby - because life is all about how much money you make and what you do with it! Why don't you go exploit some Mexican workers to make up the difference?

Just trying to be helpful,
Your friendly neighbor in Canada
as opposed to life being how much money you make and what someone else does with it?
Try, as in, life is bigger then money and what your "life-style" is. It's about the choices you make and that you are accountable for those choices. Not that questioning where your tax dollars go, or that having a decent lifestyle is wrong - that is completely out of context. The point is, it is conceited to think the only problem in the world is how a tax increase affects your life-style as was stated by the poster I quoted.

I completely agree you should question where an increase in tax dollars goes, but likewise, you should question what a tax-cut does, other then to please some short-sighted voters (e.g. I get more money, yay lets vote for X). I doubt people question where a tax decrease goes (besides to their wallet), but they raise hell when it increases. This is an entirely logical and understandable conclusion, but if you believe life is more then about just "you" but also about your fellow man, then you can see the point I am making - it is not just about you.

If we lived in a society where anything goes, and you are accountable for nothing, then what stops me or the next man from killing (or worse) for what I want? It is because all of us are born learning between right and wrong, and as we grow that can be perverted or reinforced, and in combination we are all still going to make mistakes. If the purpose of our lives is just to live and do whatever we want - I'd rather be dead to be honest, life is way bigger then just what we want...but I digress, my point was that the poster was being a conceited baby.

I believe, rawls, that he was asking what people think the Democrat's approach to those things he listed will be. I might as well pitch in my 2 cents.

1. Probably raise the taxes but hopefully just as much as needed, not too high that we're all broke and not so low that crime starts rising and public schools deteriorate.

2. Hopefully find a way to legalize whoever's already in here, and possibly speed up the naturalization process for people hoping to come to the US. If it only took a few weeks for your application of even a Green Card to get approved, then I'm sure many immigrants would take that path if it meant they'd be assured of not being deported back to Tijuana if they're caught.

3. Hopefully the Iraq war will be scaled back. With the new SoD, we'll hopefully be able to roll back from Iraq without leaving it a mess. Should this happen smoothly and quickly, more money can go to healthcare.

4. Gun control? Make the cops better equipped to handle things, though that's mostly a mayoral decision. All I have to say here is that good people with guns are no different without guns. Only difference is that criminals will still have "illegal" weapons, and the good man's only defense is a non-existent efficient and effective police force.

5. Let it be the woman's choice, have that a national law. We aren't in the 1600's, and you honestly would deny a woman an abortion if she was impregnated through rape? If the birth would put her at risk of death?

6. Legalize it. Gays are just as human as straights, why can't they have the same options we have? I see prohibiting gay marriage as no better than segregation in the 1950's, or not letting Jews into shops in Nazi Germany in the 1930's.

7. Education, same approach as the medicare. Hopefully Iraq can be transferred more to Iraq's control, less money is spent there, and that saved money can also be spent on education. However, a tax raise for both issues seems almost inevitable.

8. Phased, controlled, intelligent withdrawal. We unfortunately dug ourselves into this mess, and now we have to try and dig ourselves out without getting our gloves dirty, or Iraq's gloves dirty.

9. I'm not sure what you want here? If the President shows corruption, treason, commits high crime, etc then he should be impeached. If the President is just a stupid SOB like Bush, show opposition from the other parts of the government. Remember, checks and balances. Just cause Bush wants to go to war doesn't mean we go. Congress still has to let it happen.

I know he wanted a Dems perspective but I also know it was a loaded question. He didn't want an answer, he wanted a starting point to attack whatever was going to be the response.

Anyways, I agree with your points except for abortion and gay marriage.

1. Abortion should be illigal except for xtreme cases (rape, inscest, baby going to be born without a brain, etc.) Its time for responsibility. Have sex get pregnant pay the price. We cant start treating life like a disposable item.

2. Gay marriage should be legal but they should not get the same tax breaks and benefits as regular marriage.

No, I am not a terrorist, and yes I am an American citizen with 4th amendment rights that the government can violate.

Just because I'm not rounded up at gun point is not the sole meaning of [insert religion]-facist.  The government is trying to alter one of this country's founding documents to exclude an entire segment of society, and you have the very meaning of christo-facist in people like Anne Coulter and Kathryn Harris.  Correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm not, but it was Kathryn Harris that said the separation of church and state is false, and that only Christians should be allowed to hold office.  Sorry dude, but that is as facist as it gets.

And I suppose that's a load better than now? Something bad happened! Blame it on Clinton. 9/11 was Clinton's fault. So was Iraq (well, at least when it went bad. When it was good that was all Bush, ya know.) Deficit? Pfft, time, logical order, wtf. That was Clinton's fault and you know it.

Yes, I am somewhat Democratic/liberal. I tend to be more moderate, although the things I'm conservative about are rarely discussed here. Such as? Firearms. Why ban them? The people who have them illegally aren't going to turn them in, and those who want them illegally will get them anyway.. As for everyone else, they're not going around murdering people, last time I checked.

Anyway, next time, maybe I'll try a topic that has questions without any slant to them.
