We perceive the universe as expanding because we can see light from further and further away. The universe may be 100,000,000 billion light years across, but as it has existed for 13-15 billion, we can only 13 to 15 billion light years into space. As time goes on we can see light from further and further away. From our point of view, the universe is then "expanding".

Then you're saying that the universe has expanded faster than the speed of light, or time didn't exist when the universe began expanding. Haha, I really don't see how knowing this will help humanity in any way, I mean it's not like we can get there and even if we do sending back information about it would be pretty impractical.
