Thanks for bringing this up. Perma-bans should be restricted to administrators. Forum moderators, in general, are afforded less power over their virtual community.

Insofar as they have the ability to moderate threads. It doesn't mean they are better people or have a bigger penis, it just means they have the power to keep the place clean, should they choose. A mere forum user does not have said ability beyond his/her own contributions.

If you want the funny crap and humorous responses, stay out of the "debate and serious talk" sub-forum because, from the title, that stuff doesn't belong there.  IIRC it was created because people wanted to talk about the serious stuff in their lives.

So far, out of the people I have banned, one has come to me and asked me to rethink it. Maybe some of you know this. Sergeriver was such a guy, I perm banned him for posting "porn" - I put this word in inverted commas for the simple fact that Sergeriver did not believe it to be porn.
We had a huge discussion about the whole "incident", I decided to talk to the mods, I did, their thoughts were pretty equal on mine. The ban stays..
But then I spoke to him more, and I realised maybe such a harsh ban was not in favour here, so after great long discussion Sergeriver got a temp ban.

Bans are not really questioned 90% of the time. Because most of the time it is a 17-25 year old being immature or drunk and being "completely out of line".
You could argue there is no such thing as "completely out of line" in forums. But then you are looking in the wrong direction. You may think you have freedom of speech, and yes, you may do what you want, say what you want. But there is an extent to which people can tolerate it. Once that is gone, you are history.
Everyone has different levels of toleration/maturity/immaturity etc. But there is a point where most people will agree on one main argument.
And that, is when you get banned.
Imagine a world where you could do anything. Simple fact about this world... It would be chaos, and we would wipe ourselves off the planet. Rules are everywhere, you see them in daily jobs, restaurants, at home... Everywhere
You could argue this is the "internet" and it is not like the world, but I disagree, it is very like it.
If there were no rules on the internet, I doubt you would be able to operate your computer for 1 hour without it getting hacked.
Yes, it does not stop everyone from hacking, but it does stop people. And that is a good enough reason for having rules and enforcing them.

Well my dear friend, I say Bullshit to that. Kids have so much curiosity about the world you cannot stop them from doing such things. When was the first time you loked at porn? Think about that. There are parents on these forums as well, and I dont think they would want thir kids going on here and seeing those pictures or reading some of the inulting messages, before you post something mature/insultive/disturbing, think about the kids on these forums and how they would see it.

It was not porn.  And you did not want to unban me, chuy did.  I talked with several mods and you and two more were convinced it was porn.  But Darth_Fleder, Alpha and two more told me to talk with chuy coz that was not porn.  Tell the story right.  You banned me for posting a joke about "why do women and men have two hands?" where there were two pics, one was a girl holding a credit card and a cell phone, and the other was a naked baby grabbing his parts (which didn't show) and holding a RC.  That was the porn.  I had to talk with chuy by xfire and he immediately unbanned me.  I never talked about this in the forum, but since you mentioned it, let's tell the things right.
I deleted the messages, but you banned me and told me "You were perma-banned for posting child ponr, there's no way you can't survive that, don't come back",or something like that.  That day I felt insulted and you treated me like a pedophile and I consider you abused your mod authority.  Sorry.

I saw the pic too. If you think that's porn then ban ads for nappies (or diapers as you guys call them).

It was my fault though, for being naive and thinking that everyone is as innocent as I am.

I cannot take a ban away once it is in place. I perm banned you then I had my doubts, you spoke to me and, yes we never cleared it but I still knew you did not deserve a perm ban.

I also know that picture would not be ok to email to our CEO at work or to an 8 year old girl. I would have removed the picture and gave you a warning. Ban? maybe...depends on how many warnings you've had.

I didn't insult you.  And the fact you say that is child porn, it's the same that I'm a pedophile.  As a matter of fact, I didn't get a temp-ban at all.  You never sent me a pm telling me that you were wrong, neither did in your post, so why did you wait for me to tell this?  Now you confess you were wrong.  But when we talked you said that was child porn.  I don't have a problem with you so don't get me wrong, but you said in this thread that I posted child porn, and that's not true.
