And look how NY on the second list on the left is number 4 for safest, all in part due to Giuliani's tough crime laws.  Republican laws FTW.

But anyways not to make this partisan, ummm care to explain why you are posting this Ship? No comments?

Want to know why those cities are dangerous? St. Louis and Detroit, Compton, its not because of Guns, its not because of knives, its because of gangs and drugs.  Their association with firearms and illegal trades is of no consequence, gangs = crime.

But I digress, what is your point?

It was not a loaded post. Just something that we all look at and interpret using our own tendencies and worldviews. Personally I have no important opinions on it, other than a bit of upper-midwest pride.

It seemed to be an interesting point of discussion that was not immediately partisan at first blush. However it took one post for it to become so. Ah well - such is discourse circa 2006 in the "united" state known as the United States.

Please tell me where in my post I said it was loaded......

I agree it was something to look at, I was just expecting more of an opinion from you.  that is all.  I said lets NOT make it partisan, i was JOKING, omg.  Calm down.

I think Richmond is much worse than Oakland, per capita.  What baffles me is San Jose is safest in its size category.  Obviously, the people doing the survey have never driven in San Jose (has highest vietnamese population outside of vietnam in the world and is host to many other foreign countries (afghanistan, pakistan, and other asian countries) who do not produce the best quality drivers.  Commuting through San Jose is a death wish..no matter what lane you choose.

Hmm...my hometown is the 25th safest, but my current location is the 25th most dangerous.

EDIT: There's no way Coral Springs is the 10th Safest....it should definately be on the top 25 most dangerous.

Morgan Quitno (the company that does the American survey) doesn't include Illinois cities because they keep more detailed records of male rape than most other areas.  Apparently, the implication is that if all other states did the same, their rape rates would be considerably higher.  Most states only seem to focus on female rape.

Last summer I went to Washington, D.C. for an academic conference (first time there btw, nice city) and while having lunch in Chinatown, some random guy just walked up to me in the restaurant and offered me drugs.

It was kind of amusing.

This poll is to generic to tell anyone facts.  There are a lot of Lexingtons in the USA, I know of two off the top of my head (Lexington, KY and Lexington, MA).  Here is a list that Wikipedia has just for the cities in the US named Lexington.

Lexington, Kentucky (the largest city of this name in the U.S.)
Lexington, Alabama
Lexington, Georgia
Lexington, Illinois
Lexington, Indiana
Lexington, Massachusetts
Lexington, Michigan
Lexington, Minnesota
Lexington, Mississippi
Lexington, Missouri
Lexington, Nebraska
Lexington, New York
Lexington, North Carolina
Lexington, Ohio
Lexington, Oklahoma
Lexington, South Carolina
Lexington, Tennessee
Lexington, Texas
Lexington, Virginia
Lexington Park, Maryland

Does anyone think that it is funny that the two cities that played in the World Series this year are ranked one and two most dangerous cities in the US?
