The first track (Kiev Mission) features an uncredited Berlin actress chanting, in Russian, the names of the continents of the world and pleading to end the threat of "limited" nuclear war, which was a potential danger facing the world during the late Cold War era in which the album was released.

there is no way stockhausen is more appealing than that. it's still notionally dance music, with a propulsive rhythm and trance arpeggios, at the least. it's a very novel approach, sure, the guy essentially made a dance album without any kick drums. but it works incredibly well -- and was reviewed as one of the best albums of 2019 in the dance music press (and beyond). it's a producer who knows enough about his genre, inside and out, to subvert it and take it in new directions.

he's a resident DJ at berghain/p-bar and releases on their label. i think he's doing a-ok!

any one of his tracks sound absolutely amazing on a dancefloor/sound-system, breaks up a set and lets in a few sunbeams. ecstatic moments, smiles all round.

perfectly produced and mastered, of course. the whole point of 'techno' is to experiment with new technologies, new media, new aspects of sound design and engineering -- it's there in the very name. making dance songs on a laptop with software synths or the same recombinations of roland hardware from 1987 is not quite in the spirit of the thing.

i never got frank ocean until i dated a new yorker for half a year. then it was like 'blonde' opened up a whole new world for me (her world, pretty much). still think that's a perfect album, play it at least once a month.

just bought the vinyl reissue of this classic album. oh yeah!
