<3 them
I guess that shows some form of integrity on your part; liking music that people you dislike introduced you to.

Does Tera Melos sound like The Fall of Troy, or the other way around? You decide.Uzique wrote:

fall of troy came afterwards
and they're both copying a bunch of bands that came 10 years before, anyway
so it's not like it matters
jens i've been compared to the guy from Girls before... and no way is he 10 years older than me!

TFOT came before Tera Melos, if you can believe that site with the creepy dude looking at you (wikipedia).Uzique wrote:

Apparently they toured together in '08. So you listen to one, go for a beer, come back to the other and point out, in a drunken haze, that it's still the same band.
Anyway, like you said, doesn't really matter. TFOT worked as a good Mars Volta substitute-drug when Frances the Mute wasn't what I expected, and De-Loused had to be shelved for a while after some really heavy listening. Frances the Mute soon grew on me though.

TFOT are nothing like the mars volta and never have been
these bands are nothing new, they're just building on math-rock jams that were invented by bands like Hella... about 10 years earlier
tera melos were doing 'that' particular brand of twitchy math-rock before TFOT... back then they were making screamy noise

I agree, The Mars Volta is really in a league of their own. As was ATDI.

im not saying TMV or ATDI or better/worse... im just saying that TMV's musical style has nothing in common with tera/troy

Prog-experimental-post-HC, whateveryouwannacallit. Fuck genres, though.
The Mars Volta that happened after De-Loused is a different thing, completely different than the debut, which was almost ATDI-sounding. I'm pretty sure tera and tfot have done their homework when it comes to post-hc, especially atdi.
But I neither said they're the same, if you read my posts.

lol.
the mars volta are prog-rock, yeah... sometimes experimental... not really post-hardcore at all, that's ATDI
math-rock is a different kettle of fish. there isn't even the same song-structure.

Roll back a bit, I never said I thought all of the above were "the same". You wanted to read it that way though. I never said I'd be butthurt either, where'd you get that from?Uzique wrote:

I'll check out the bands you suggested more in-depth, I've only gotten a glance of the music. So thanks for the recommendation, mate. And speaking of math, I'm going through another one of my oh-so-many Meshuggah-phases, this time the "Nothing"-album. Don't think it's your cuppa, but maybe you want to check it out, so next time we talk about it, you'll know everything better than me.

Meshuggah has the effect on me that whenever I feel wound up, it calms me down, gives me a cup of warm cocoa with whipped cream on top and, a blanket and tells me that everything is going to be just fine. Especially "Dancers to a Discordant System" from obZen.Uzique wrote:

Not at all on the subject: I just browsed my shelf and after seeing NIN, remembered one thing. "Closer" gets women wet.

There's just something about "Closer" as a track that makes it have a near 100% success rate in achieving arousal within the female sex. If it's a hipster chick in question, the success rate is increased to 150% if you happen to have Downward Spiral on vinyl.
