I am looking into setting up a server for BF2 on a second machine of mine and had 2 questions:

1. Do I have to purchase a second copy of the game for the server or can I use the copy I already have. I didn't know if I would be allowed to connect to a server with the same CD key as mine....

2. Do I have to pay EA if I want the server to be ranked?

1. Not sure about that, but I don't think that you need a CD for a dedicated (not LAN) server on your PC, so it should be possible.

2. The only way to get a ranked server is to rent a server.

You don't need a CD or a CD key to run a standalone server. You can find separate binaries for windows and linux servers here: http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/ … loads.jsp.

That's only unranked. As posted above, you can't run ranked servers on your own.
