OK, I realize that this article is TOTALLY over the top (and that these trends are also present in many countries), but it does raise a few interesting points.  I'm just curious how Brits perceive this and what you might have to add or clarify.

well im a bit dubious about weather it will be introduced across the county any time soon but tbh....zomg etc.

'Bradburn noted the system had a "psychological effect" on offenders.'

not suprised since they got busted for starting a ruck or summat similar and as a consequence cant go drinking in town lol.

would be funny if the "psychological effect" sent the offenders into a psychotic rage or summat.

erm anyway, im not liking the way things are going, obv. if u aint got anything to hide then its not a prob seemingly. sadly i've been smoking weed since i was 17 and i get the fear when reading shit like this.

We used to go out to the swan across the road from stockwell tube and the bouncers there would fingerprint you if they had the chance. It was twenty questions to get in there plus getting searched.

Why is this any different than the thousands of cameras they have already? The UK is leading the way when it comes to surveillance. The poor people cant fart in public without someone in the Govt knowing about it. Sometimes the discovery channel is very informative.

Its not as over the top as you think; everything mentioned in that article has been put before the government as a way of tackling drinking, drugs, violence, whatever. There are a few things in there that haven't happened yet (black box in the cars, central DNA database) but they have been considered.

What can you say? As long as you're one of 'our kind of people' you'll be fine and the second you don't fit in with the 'right kind of people' you'll get screwed over!!

If you look at what some person or committee in the government are considering doing then you get a whole load of stupid. These things get considered investigated and usually dropped. The banning all kitchen knives with a pointy end comes to mind.

Oh and I thought this was going to be about that crappy tv show too. My answer to that aspect is yes Big Brother really is that bad in the UK, yet millions of idiots watch it all day.

What's the problem, you had to carry ID when younger to get in pubs.
Oh my god my night out is ruined becauce I have to spend 10 seconds placing my finger print on a pad to get into the pub, oh no 6 pubs I've lost a whole 1 minute of drinking time.
Anything that stops dickheads and arseholes being in the same pub as me gets the Thumbs up.
It is not really that intrusive to have to have your finger print taken. I think good Idea and that article does ham it up on the negative side.

Saw this today. They should have said:

Would have gone down a lot better.

They can't do all that stuff yet. I was doing some research on security cameras that can pick up particular events occuring, for example two people fighting. I did some work on it using MATLAB and it is really, really hard. Software has not yet been developed that can distinguish events with a high enough degree of accuracy to do many of the things mentioned in the article, like cameras shouting at people who litter. There is software that will get it right quite often, but not always.

I wouldn't worry too much. Most of this stuff is a few more years off, if it ever happens - and I really can't see it being  a vote winning policy.
