Bonjour,
I really need to upgrade my RAM with another GB. Ive got two 512 mb sticks at the moment, but what I want to know from you well informed guys is...........if I bought a 1GB stick would it feck everything up if I paired it with the two 512 sticks? And if what I think you guys are going to say happens, wheres the best place in the UK to get some decent 1GB sticks?

make sure its same type of ram, ie. ddr400 paired with ddr 400, etc.   ive always paired the same brand as well to eliminate any doubt, but not sure if that is an issue.

2 x 1GB is way better.

I have a quick question:

Why would people spend more money on 4x512MB to get 2GBs of RAM instead of going cheaper and buying 2x1GB?

Because they are stupid.

I can't wait until I get the money to buy two 1GBs to upgrade this computer. Too bad I have to pay a law fine, car insurance, my phone bill and an auto repair bill within the next two weeks.

Because there are more ways to allocate memory, therefore it is faster... So that doesn't make them stupid, It makes them want more performance..

Maybe with some motherboards, with my A8N-SLI Premium it is faster utilizing just two slots rather than four.

It's faster to have 2x 1GB sticks than 1x 2GB stick.  It's also faster to have 4x 512MB sticks than 2x 1GB sticks.  Why?  Because you can run a pair of sticks in dual-channel.  Therefore you mobo will access the memory on each stick faster than it would on 1 bigger stick.
