Got a question for anyone who does much rifle target shooting. A mate of mine just got the Remington 700 Target Tactical. Although I haven't yet shot it, he assures me it is sighted in. Now, the scope he has is a mystery to me. It's specifically a target scope, and it's got a logo of an eagle.

Edit: It's got 10x-25x zoom and cost about 650.

Any ideas as to what it may be?

yep that's it

for the non restricted part... you can try contacting a local DNR office to see when they do a hunter safety/firearms safety course (or a local who does them) if there are any hunting/shooting clubs near you, you can go there and ask around

for the restricted portion call 1-800-731-4000  and follow the prompts

Sweet, many good advice! Ill go around and see what i can do for the permit, and what does the restricted part do? Allow me to own like, handgun for shooting range club?

Pardon my lack of gun regulation in my own place

I shot my ruger mini-14 on monday (first time) and the thing was pretty accurate. It kept misfeeding though. The magazines I used were shitty crap quality.
  • Make sure the feed lips aren't mangled (i.e. the curvy metal bits at the top of the magazine that keep the top bullet from falling out)
  • Make sure the follower (plastic or metal bit that the bottom bullet sits on) isn't canted, bent, tweaked, broken or mangled
  • Make sure the spring hasn't taken a set (last few rounds jam) or weakened (first few rounds jam)
  • Don't use craptastic el-cheapo magazines to save $5/magazine
  • Don't load the full magazine.  In a 20 round mag, only load 18.  In a 30, load 28.
  • Make sure the magazine is fully & properly seated in the rifle.  Pull on it once you've inserted it, to make sure it's in right
Thanks a lot

I'm pretty sure it was just a magazine problem. Seating the magazine was a pain in itself they were so cheap. Spring was probably too strong IMO too.

Sh1fty,

I agree with rdx, the mag is definitely suspect and probably the first place I'd start.... followed by ammo (depending on the type of misfeed).

Do you have a Ruger factory/original mag?
If so, how does it function?
If not, buy one (or many).
http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ruger2.html

Are you shooting factory or reloaded ammo?

Can you describe the misfeed?
Was the fired case being ejected?
Was the fired case being left in the chamber?
Is the next round not being stripped/pulled from the mag?
Are both the fired case and next case being jammed together?

The fired case was ejected and the new round was half-way into the chamber but the rear half was sideways as if it was going to be ejected. At times I couldn't even chamber the first round. The thingy that pushes bullets into the chamber would get stuck on the rear of the magazine that was a real pain in the ass to seat.

Keep in mind it was the first time this rifle had ever been fired. It was properly lubricated though.

Had this problem a while ago with an old .22. Turns out the mag lips were worn a bit, and the bolt wouldn't side the rounds in straight, so they'd get stuck just like that.

I'd suggest getting new mags.

I've got a ruger mini14 ranch too...  One 30 round mag I had to toss would fall the fuck out after the first round was fired.  I'd let this happen to an unsuspecting friend a time or two a the range and yell "What the fuck did you do!?!!?"

That happens with some full mags.  Just download 2 rounds.

If I try to insert a full PMAG with a closed bolt, it does the same thing.  The mag just doesn't have enough room to seat fully with that last round hitting the BCG (in an AR-15).

Yesterday Wyoming became the fourth state to allow citizens to carry concealed guns without a permit.
a.k.a. 'Constitutional Carry'
The other three states are Alaska, Arizona and Vermont.

Other states (as many as 11) are working on similar legislation.

oi gun nuts, question

Why are there not a ton of frontline soldiers coming home deaf? I've fired a pistol without ear protection before and it left them ringing for a while, and while I wasn't deaf I had a hard time hearing things for quite a few minutes. Soldiers in a firefight are exposed to a lot more loud sounds, and it doesn't seem like they're wearing ear protection.

Helmets will provide some protection, and when they're older they'll be deaf as posts.
Plus when you're behind a gun, especially a rifle, its not so loud. Next to it is very different, and they don't fire off so many shots as they show in the movies.
