PETA and Greenpeace actually try to stop state sponsored culling hunts, even when the deer are suffering from an epidemic of "chronic wasting disease" wherein no matter how much they eat, their body doesn't absorb/process the food, allowing entire populations of the deer to die over a matter of weeks due to starvation as well as continue to spread the disease, as opposed to a quick bullet to the chest cavity, i swear, they don't think matters through
PETA is a bunch crazy morons. Here's this delightful video about how meat is bad for you. We won't verify any of these statements, like meat makes you impotent, or discuss the reason humans have teeth like they do.
chronic wasting disease is naturally occurring and needs predators to keep it in check, but it seems some people have an aversion to the release of wolves in areas populated by their children/grandchildren, granted, the wolves were displaced by the expansion of human "territory", but there's not much you can do about that, aside from mass sterilizationssergeriver wrote:

I can see that people are not concerned about whales and some people prefer the flaming and personal attacks, I won't make names.

Whalers should be torpedo'd by Greenpeace. Any Russian sub for sale we can donate?

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
Greenpeace should torpedo themselves. They tried driving their boat into a nuke test once.
They're allowed to for a year. They're only allowed to hunt a certain number. Is whaling inherently bad? No. Is it because they're endangered and have been threatened for awhile? Yes. Think of it this way. We're aware of the consequences now. I have a feeling they're going to be quite responsible about it.

Whaling is bad. Period. They won't be responsible, unless they get all the world bitching at them.Ikarti wrote:

How is whaling any different than hunting any other animal, or fishing? They have a limit on what they can kill. There's going to be illegal whaling, but guess what, there's been illegal whaling with the ban too.sergeriver wrote:

I know, but if you give them freedom to hunt, although is limited, they will hunt a lot more. And I don't think hunting is good. But Humans need to eat so sadly some animals are killed in order we can eat. Whales are an endangered species, and if we don't stop their killing we will lose them.Ikarti wrote:

Personally, I have no desire to hunt, but as long as you eat what you kill, there's no problem.
Whaling isn't inherently bad. It's only bad now because they're endangered. Once the population recovers, it's no worse than any other meat source.
In fact, I believe whaling is probably one of the most moral animals to hunt. Killing one whale feeds a LOT of people. One death = lots of full stomaches. Now compare that to chicken. One death = food for 2 or 3. How about shrimp. Ten deaths = an appetizer. The larger the animal, the more meat it yields and the more ethical it is to hunt it, as long as we don't hunt them to extinction.

What I got from the article was the only one of the two species being hunted was endangered. They shouldn't be hunted, I agree. There's a lot more awareness than there was about whale populations, I'm not too worried.sergeriver wrote:

Spotted Owl....It's what's for dinner!
My philosophy,
Unless you are starving, or there is an overpopulation of the species, hunting for the hell of it is wrong. We do enough damage to enviorment as it is in our day to day life, why do we need to kill more? Deer and small game sure, but killing an indangered speices is wrong.

Let's kill pandas, they are heavy bastards, you can feed a lot of people with one panda, but you know what, there're only 1600 left, that's why you should not kill them.chittydog wrote:

Obviously, anyone who participates in the whaling industry on any level has never seen Star Trek IV.

Seriously GTFO of D&STon the endangered species list — in the period from Sept. 1, 2006 until Aug. 31, 2007.
I respect your opinion. I really do, but please try and actually, I dont know, read the article that is being discussed.
Sorry newbie I had to.
