And your missing my point: That we have programs in place for that exact kind of assistence. YOU took advantage of it, I am taking about those that don't.
You're basically making a pointless argument then. You're saying: I don't like people who are lazy. It's not much of a point. You started out with complaints about welfare systems and have since wittled it down to this one 'point'.
Well, thatis true, but it does go a little deeper than that............I don't want to support people that are lazy either. And youer argument is that I should, yet you can't seem to give me a reason, I know because I have asked.

I didn't have to go to university. I had to attend school until I was 16. The government gave me €3000 a year to go because my parents were low-income, they paid all of my uni fees too - all on the taxpayer. Now I repay that debt to society every year to the tune of €12000. I'd like to thank fellow taxpayers for helping me become a success. I chose to study engineering and was successful, working hard to attain a first class honours degree. Does that sound like someone who would have been happy to 'blame someone else'? I don't  think so.
Yes yes, but you CHOSE TO GO TO SCHOOL, right???? You came from a poor family, WANTED a higher education and with assistence got it!!.........Cam, you are doing nothing but proving my point. I just don't get it. YOu took the inititive to finsh school and now you are prospering from your decision. Congrats.

PS ....I noted the "worked hard" in your post as well.............Now you know the point I have been trying to make all this time...........thank you

Who pays for you to go to school. Thats right the people that are smart and successful. You you make good money you say. Well imagine how much more you would be making if you didn't have to pay for lazy people mooching (which undoubtedly happens).

I'm not a mercenary bastard. Mooching is a minority activity - not many people enjoy unemployment: it's soul-destroying. I pay for an unfortunate aspect of reality as I stated a few posts back (with reasoning).

Yes, we all are, a reality, that has been pretty much shown does NOT have to exist for any able bodied person in America.

Our ideological difference amounts to me believing that all should be cared for because to do otherwise would exclude those that do try or want to better themselves and there would also be a negative impact on society in general (as seen in difference between homeless numbers between Europe and USA) whereas you believe in not supporting all because, as I see it, you're annoyed that your money goes towards a small minority of people who are wasters.

Lowing needs to watch 30 days. Couple enters poverty making minimum wage for 30 days. They make smart decisions, looking for work anywhere, choosing dirt cheap living space, no furniture, eating only cheap vegetables. And by the end? Belly up. Nowhere. Nada. Guy puts so much effort into working to try and make cash, he hurts his arm, goes to the hospital, charged 300 just  to be looked at. Has to quit that job. And that was just 30 days. Imagine someone living their whole life this way, without any escape, debt that only grows, debt that keeps them from getting any loans, government or otherwise, with no hope in sight, no drive, no inspiration, hardly subsiting on vegetables. Lowing just can't comprehend the reality of the lower class. He's so stuck in the denial of his nice plush middle class life full of oppertunity.

Well, I'm in that same middle class, but I've got the heart to let some of my good fortune spill over for those below. What's giving up a few hundred in taxes so that someone else can LIVE.

The right wing is heartless, they've forgotten the value of life, turning a blind eye to war and poverty.

Is it really so hard, based on tax returns, length of time a person has been sucking the govt.s tit, age, physical fitness, applications for assistance for higher learning, to weed out those that want, and want to work for it, and those that want, and want everyone else to work for it??

Is that attitude, really really, too much to comprehend???

The Irish government implements a scheme whereby these people must sporadically do some community service if unemployed for excessive periods of time.

That aside, when a downturn in the economy occurs the NUMBER OF JOBS CAN FALL BELOW THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SEEKING EMPLOYMENT. No matter how hard you try you won't be able to get a job in that situation. As such, your fellow countrymen who do have jobs should be expected to help you out if you are stuck in that predicament. Otherwise society as a whole suffers.

There is another reason you should agree with me on this........

DO you not think that the money spent on the leeches of society would better be utilized actully helping those that truly need it?..........

Is it really too much to ask that those that can do so, ACTUALLY LIFT A FUCKIN" FINGER to help themselves so we can concentrate on those that can not?

The left wing are pussy's that feel nothing is worth fighting for. They believe that people that work hard and earn their place in society should have to suffer and pay shitloads of taxes to fund the bums.
The left wing seems to have forgotten the value of hard work and morals. The left wing turns a blind eye to people mooching of the system and dismiss threats to national security as "we brought it upon ourselves" or something similar. All in all the left wing is weak kneed pussy's.

Expelled??.........personal responsibility........you should be studying in school and shit that will get you expelled.

Parents die, so instinctively you drop out of school??........I put that up there with Hurricane Katrina happens, so naturally, I must go break into a store and steal a plasma TV.

Shitloads of taxes to fund welfare for the benefit of all, including unfortunately a small number of bums. The reason being - society will benefit and people who ordinarily wouldn't 'make it' in life can.

That is laughable. You really have a warped viewpoint of the 'left wing'. If by left wing you mean liberal then you are wrong: centrists believe in working hard to get ahead and helping others along the way. If by left wing you actually mean left wing then your wrong on that count too - when I was in Cuba recently the TV kept droning on about the value of hard work and ethics. It was like a fucking stuck record player.

Also, I don't think ANYONE takes the issue of national security lightly.

You also don't live in the ghetto or inner city. Or any area of poverty for that matter.

Obviously someone should be punished all their life for pantsing someone.

If the parents die in a poor family, the son or daughter has to work for a living.

no ,I expect people that are 12 and older know the difference between right and wrong. What you do with that knowledge is totally up to you. Or do you think that a 16 year old kid who vandalizes a school DOESN'T know he is doing wrong? If that were the case, then he wouldn't be worried about being caught now would he??

Nope I don't, ya know why? because I took responsibility for myself and got educated, I didn't let anything stop me.

NO, they shouldn't and they are not, being expelled from one school does not mean you can't finish HS. This is a cop out and you know it.

Yup, maybe so, the key words are "WORK FOR A LIVING". If they are working for a living then they are HELPING THEMSELVES........IF THEY ARE HELPING THEMSELVES, then I am all in favor of helping them.

However, if at 40 years old, you still have not warranted a pay raise from the minimum wage since you were 16, or been able to take care of yourself, since, after all, it has now been 24 god damn years, and your siblings would have grown up and moved on as well, then you are still out of excuses.

Yes 'you expect'. Unfortunately in this diverse non-ideal world in which we live people sometimes don't mature that fast and fall into unsavoury situations as a result of poor parenting or the environment in which they live (the ghetto for instance).

Well you would hope their conditions have improved, through hard work, having been afforded every opportunity to succeed through a welfare system that compensates for the poor start in life they receive.

Exactly Cam, I heard it again, "hard work"  and if their situation doesn't improve after 24 frickin years, then who ya wanna blame??

see, my point?? You can't escape the reality of being responsible for ourselves, and if we are a failure due to lack of ambition, trying, or responsibility it is nobodies fault except your own.  YOu yourself as well as Jonsimon can't even give a scenario without throwing in "hard work"......It is a MUST, if you are going to succeed in life. No I do not neen another Bill Gates, I mean simply a comfortable living.

I simply do not feel society should be burdened with some no good lazy piece of shit and their self induced problems....If they don't care enough to help themselves, why do I need to worry about it.

Also, you didn't answer my question...............Would our tax money be better served helping those that strive for a better life? Or wasting it on those that are looking for a free ride??

You have failed to address what should be done when the labour force exceeds the number of jobs.
This is why we have welfare and various other programs. Cameron you make it seem like we are pure capitalist. We are not, thats why we have things such as welfare and other programs we are a mix of socialism and capitalism
