Why does everyone want an Alienware so badly?  Go here and build one and have them fully assemble it for you: http://www.cpusolutions.com/8004744cpu/ … p=&Bc=

MAn thats major bucks for a DELL. Yes i said DELL, Because DELL owns them now for the last year.

Heck get the DELL, its cheaper LOL.

Ill get you some sites with some prebuilts on it. Ive ordered 10's of thousands of dollars of them with no issues, and also have built them from scratch with there parts. Ill pass you the info ASAP. so dont drop the coin just yet on the Alienanchor just yet.

If you want a good pre-built system, go to www.Falcon-NW.com and check out their 'budget' Talon. To people who do want to build their own systems and don't know exactly what they're doing, then for the love of god:

Here's a decent Falcon-NW rig:

FalconNW Talon -

    * Silverstone TJ04 Black Chassis
    * Silverstone 750Watt Modular Power Supply
    * Asus P5N32-SLI SE DLX - SLI Capable
    * Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz
    * Zalman CNPS7000LED ALCU (Intel)
    * Corsair 2GB TwinX DDR2 8500C5 W/EPP
    * nVidia GeForce 7950GT 512MB
    * WD Raptor 150GB 16MB Cache
    * Seagate 500GB 16MB Cache
    * Sony DRU820 Dual Layer DVD+-/RW
    * Sony 16X DVD-ROM
    * Integrated Audio
    * Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    * MS Keyboard/Logitech Mouse

$3575

Go onto their site and configure something similar. Choose the mouse/keyboard of your liking, and specify an X-Fi sound card if audio quality is important to you.

For a monitor, ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms DVI LCD Monitor 270 cd/m2 650:1 Contrast ($255) would do in a pinch, but I still recommend buying one of those from a local retail outlet, so you can ask to see it hooked up to check for dead pixels before you commit.

That's pretty damn expensive for it's config though. Yeah I would defitnantly go w/ core 2 duo, way better then AMD

I would personally just get DDR2 800 ram instead of that 1066mhz ram, that would save a lot of cash and invest that for an E6600

Hell Id wait for the E4300 in January from Intel. Its said to Overclock by 75% without extra heat and with no voltage increase. So your talking 1.8 to 2.6 or so for around $150, and it will crush ANYTHING on the market now and anything AMD will have out until mid 2008.

But thats just me, LOL, Byt then again, Intel is releasing the Quads with 16meg L2 on chip sooooooo But then again WTF do you need Quad cores for? Programs will take 10 years to catch up to take advantage of them. It takes longer to train programers than it does to come up with new Tech LOL.

Heres a better suggestion, If your willing to drop that kind of coin on a desktop system, Why the hell wouldnt you Buy a Lappy? They have them with all the same crap and you can upgrade vidio cards when you need to and take your computer with you when you want. Thats my plan if i ever have to replace this thing. Ill be damned if im gonna lugg this thing to a lan ever again.

If you want a system you can trust, I would recommend to build one yourself. When I built mine, I bought all the parts off of newegg.com

Rhetoric is lost on the internet...

Here's an even better suggestion? How about we wait until 2010. And then 2012. And if we get that far, 2016...

But the reason I don't go lappy is because they overheat easily, are a pain to mess with, and it's hard for me to find an LCD that I truly like, let alone one attached to a computer. Therefore, I buy outdated laptops. *shrug* As for quad cores, how long will it be before some clever dev apps programming studio catches on.

Of course, you wouldn't reject one if it was dropped into your lap, now...

Actually the system is good, BUT it's so expensive! You can get the same for 1000$ so basicly you are paying 3 computers to have one. If you don't want to build it yourself, look a bit around and don't take an alienware. There are cheaper alternatives which doesn't make you pay that much.

LAppys Screens are much better now. Plus the fact, you can hook anything you want to it for home use. But anyways If i had the coin and the chance again I would get one. Because i have two places i live, One winter one summer.

As for the Quad core deal, your right, i sort of hit on that subject, It will be until atleast 2010 until you see anything that will utilize the Quad cores. Its going to take Retraining of Programers, or completely mew programers. Leaving alot of peeps out of jobe unless they retrain.

sad part is, AMD wont be comeing out with ANY kind of procesor that will even try and keep up with The new Intel CPU's. They are going to release yet Another revamp of there 90nm cores next month. Then, there duel's and quads(in late 2008) will only have 4mbL2 and have 2mb added to the L3 LMAO. They wont even be close, specially whan the AMD's will fineally be there 65nm chipe while the Intels will be there 45nm chips already LOL. Ill buy a Core 2 Duo, but theres NO need for Quad cores for atleast 4-5 years yet.

BTW, a lappy with the new Intel chips run real cool if you get a good lappy. The vid cards run a bit warm, but remember lappy parts are ment to take the heat. They really are much better than you think in the heat department. Ive worked with quite a few for my Six pack friends who dont know how to do a reformat on there new laptops because they screwed them up LOL

OP: Alienware's way overpriced. Falcon-NW offers better deals, but they still don't have the best prices. You could lower alot of specs on the Falcon to a more manageable system, of course...but nothing like a good ol' custom PC.

Bertster7 wrote:

Or I could leave the X-Fi in because I'm a blithering CL fan and leave the RAMdrive out (you skipped over SCSI) because it's a pain in the ass. Never said I was buying the thing, but there's no internet law against holding your thumbs and fingers together in a frame and just picturing a pile of bright, shiny components like those splayed across a workstation, at no impact to your wallet.

@laptop parts: yeah, I suppose you're right, but I just haven't gotten over their overly-proprietary past. It would push the same buttons in my brain as going back to the early 90s' to buy a Compaq Presario. *shudders*

@programmer training: and who's to say I wouldn't be geeking out with equipment at my disposal? granted, I'm not a talented enough programmer to get anywhere, but maybe I could make it say 'Hello'

---

Proof that I don't senselessly blow wads of cash:

Current PC (slapped together in Nov'04)

Athlon 3500+
Asus A8V Deluxe
2x Corsair TWINX CMX512-3200XL's DDR-400 2-2-2-5
BFG 6800 Ultra AGP 256MB (the crux of the bill, and it's lasted me to this day, flawlessly)
Raptor 74GB
WD 500GB SATA
Random external DVD drive.
Random internal CD drive, dangling outside the chassis.

---

Heheh. That being said, I should come to the tech forum every now and then and just say "quad core," just to incite snort-chuckle rebuttals.
