Haven't seen a blatant, undeniable Bush bashing thread lately so I thought I'd make one and make it debatable by soliciting comments from both sides of this topic:

Is Bush a Coward or is he Courageous?

And finally, I'll start by defining his cowardice with this latest find on thinkprogress.org..
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/10/bus … ate-korea/

BUSH: We will not tolerate [nuclear] weapons in North Korea. We will not give into blackmail. We will not settle for anything less than the complete, verifiable, and irreversible elimination of North Korea’s [nuclear] weapons program. [5/23/03]

BUSH: The transfer of [nuclear] weapons or material by North Korea to states or non-state entities would be considered a grave threat to the United States, and we would hold North Korea fully accountable of the consequences of such action. [10/9/06]

I don't know, but not tolerating anything sure doesn't sound like what he's said yesterday about N. Korea and the prospect of them transferring "nookuler" weapons or materials to other places.

Cowardice or Courageous?

Problem with politicians: they make big, grand claims (they have to, to impress voters), which are impractical in practice.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

I wish that were all this was..just a bad compaign promise.  But it actually has his basic job duties involved being the safety of this country.  Since his good 'ole boy cowboy tough talk calling N Korea part of the axis of evil, his 'bring it on' shit, and other false bravado...he's now being a total and complete pansy because his bluff didn't work.

I can deal with the campaign lies of "we're gonna bring healthcare to the 49 million who don't have it!" but I can't deal well with promises of safety..which i could link to endlessly from this blowhole.  Maybe if i lived deep in the confines of a cozy little red state where there isn't danger of a real nookular attack, i'd be complacent about this.  But I happen to live in probably the closest vital target from Kim Jong Illin...a place with the 4th largest US port which still today has zero screening of overseas containers!  woohoo!

didn't he also give missile tech to them not too long after receiving donations from chinese organizations for his campaign? interesting how everyone ready to testify to that "committed suicide" or were the only successful hits in "random" driveby's, or was that the whitewater witnesses?

Saying that we will hold them accountable means now we tolerate it?.. Sorry I think I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

Courageous.  Got to admire a politician that makes a complete U-turn on policy when they realise they are wrong.

Yep, and now we're not only tolerating N Korea by being cowards, they've TODAY threatened military action against us if we sanction them.  Goodie!  Can't wait to see what this cowardly asshat president does next!  In the mean time, I think I'll move north a few hundred miles.

And to the guy up a few posts saying clinton gave them technology, you're dead wrong.  Clinton was being diplomatic with N. Korea and helping them stay within the non-proliferation treaty (and they were) by giving them light-water reactors which were rigged in a way so as to prevent dissasembling of them for study or assembly into a weapons grade material.  Further, as Condi Rice just said yesterday, she didn't blame clinton but praised his efforts.

And for what it's worth, Don Rumsfeld was on the board of a company that actually sold light-water nuclear reactors to Korea OUTSIDE of the work president clinton was doing.  So it's partyly don rumsfeld's fault that N Korea had unobstructed light-water reactor technology that they could tinker and toy around with.

And let's not forget that it was on Bush's watch that the pakistani guy who gave pakistan nukes, is likely the one who sold the technology to n korea to array centrifuges to enrich uranium making weapons grade nuke material..oh, and bush just let that one go with full tolerance...

No, we're safe, thanks to the Japanese PM who has shown what real intolerance really means.  And Japan showed their intolerance the second they learned of the nuke test..and the trade boats that arrived from NK are still in their Japanese harbor, and all ferries between the country's have stopped.

I believe south korea has also started their contingency plan.  Everyone is doing what they said they'd do but us...we're going to abandon our tough talk (the only time it should have been necessary over the last 5 years) and do useless sanctions that won't even hurt NK.  zzzzzzz...

Look at this crap! Finally the world agrees to sanctions. But wait North Korea threatening us is OUR fault. Get real. Do you pay taxes? I bet you don't.

Yeah, this is kinda pissin me off too. So lets say our coward in chief decided to use military force to take out NK, I'd be willing to bet this same guy would be in here arguing that it's complete BS, and that GW is evil for doing it. Fence hoppin mofo.

Is it not a fact that in 2003 Bush said there will be zero tolerance to a nuclear armed north korea?

And did he not just say two days ago that he would press the UN to sanction NK.

Oh, for the ignorant ones here, NK is already under sanctions!  Wooohoo!  Way to show intolerance to the NK 'having' nukes george!

Why would GW attack N. Korea, I don't think they have any oil to exploit?

Actually they produce no oil.

What would you have him do?  Start another war in which thousands of American citizens and innocent civilians will die and turns another country into a breeding/proving ground for terrorists?

Wait aren't you the same kind of bitch that whined about letting the UN handle the problem with Iraq?  Now you are mad about Bush with North Korea doing what was wanted?  Hmm who are the hypocrites now?

The difference now is that GW got China, friends of NK, to agree to sanctions. Thats what GW meant by Zero tolerance, newb.
