You know, I've long heard the cliché insult given to people who protest/question those leading this country or the manner with which our government conducts itself in the world by saying "love it or leave it" or even more annoying is the insult suggesting that we're the 'most free nation' in the world. They think that the USA is the most righteous, most liberated country in the world. It's so funny to then ask those ignoramuses if they've ever been to another country and hear them stutter and then reply "hey, love it or leave it man!" So sad that we are a slogan spewing nation of ignorant fools.
I remember returning to the USA after living in south america for a couple years. I remember having WAAAAY more culture shock returning to the states than it was arriving in Brazil. What struck me was arriving in SFO airport and seeing and hearing my fellow americans talking so loudly, using so much air when they talk, and then noticing the small differences of how we don't greet, salute, or give way to others. We don't smile at others or give due respect. I realized then how much I loved the Brazilian people and how sweet, humble, and kind they were compared to our rich, arrogant, loud, obnoxious, selfish, and proud people. I've since lost most of the good influence i had gained from Brazil, but i'm aware of it at least.
I think the ONLY good thing our country exports is aid to those in need. And that alone is something that comes from private citizens, church and other groups. And the US has not cornered that market, though we seem to think we're the only ones who donate cash, goods, and services to those in need.
