Chapter One; splash screens and movies.
One of the things I found most annoying in Battlefield 2, were the loading screens/movies.
The infamous, BIK movies. They have put them into BF2142 as well, so I first dropped by the BF2142 folder te delete all movies from the movie folder. I want to play BF2142, not what a movie.
The first thing I noticed inthe movie folder is the absence of the menu and login movie. Huray! They have not put in the resource hungry background movies like BF2 had.
On to login in.
Chapter Two; interface galore
Shiny. Shiny, shiny metal was my first responce upon viewing the interface. And I must say that I like it better then the BF2 interface. I did have to get use to the new build up and the fact that the server list actually did everything I asked from it, except getting me a cup of coffee.
Chapter Three; loading
Again the loading screen has a nice layout, but were it used to take forever too load, the map now loads under a minute on my computer.Very impressive EA.
Were is used to spend hours looking at possible flaws in the loading screen, I don't even have time reading the map description.
And wtf? No CTD, is this a DICE product? I want a CTD, this product doesn't feel dicy
Chapter Four; driving things
APC; Good supressor/spawn spoint, second attack EMP grenade is brilliant, that things has saved my life over 10 times yesterday night.
Tanks; I like the EU tank, decent handling, zooming. But I love the PAC tank. Although getting used to driving it, what else is more 'pwn1ng' than a side scrolling tank? And the non rotating turret? well that is fixed by setting the X-axis on your 1337 gaming mouse to very sensitive.
Cars; Not much to say about them, handle like a DPV/FAV.
Fighter; like them alot, the AA-missiles may need some fine tuning. Air to surface is balanced too in my opinion.
Transport.; did someone say 'Jihad Jeep 2142'? Flies like a cow, and crashes like one.
Walkers; If you have a well coordinated team in a walker, you 'pwnzrz' the map. EMP, missiles, AA guns and gatling guns, a walking fortress if controlled by the right people. Hold shift down and it actually runs faster. And using Z, makes your mech crouch! WTF!
Titan; Great AA guns, although the air to surface guns are only really handy against infantry.
Chapter Five; Game modes
Conquest, the same story as BF2
Titan, great mode, although I feel like I am playing Unreal Tournament 2004.
Chapter Six; kits
Although the initial kits are very limited, I have seen some great things. Engineer is now a class to be reckoned with, assault is strenghtend by having med-packs.
The only class I would consider unbalanced is the support class.
The gun should only be able to shoot accurate while prone.
Chapter Seven; teamwork
That is all there is. If your team does not work together you will, lose, lose, lose & lose again.
Everything is aimed at teamwork, from capturing the first missile silo or flag, towards destroying the enemy titan.
