Ikarti posited the question in another thread but it's worthy of its own.

A moderate Republican will probably be the best choice for '08, considering that even in the superior political position they're in at the moment they're fielding shit candidates so far. Hillary should never ever be discussed as an option. Any country that votes Bush in twice and follows up with Hillary for damage control voids its right to exist. Of course everyone will be out to punish the Republicans.

What other Democratic Candidates do we have? "No one knows where my state is" Biden? "I'm young, black and a senator and that's about it" Obama? Feel free to add to the list, I can't think of any more.
I wouldn't dismiss Obama. Let's be realistic - he'd win a shitload of votes just for being a likeable moderate black man in politics. Just noticed on Wikipedia that he grew up in Hawaii and Jarkarta, so we've already established that he would do well with foreign affairs and diplomacy - perhaps even as well as Bush.

But I doubt he has the political capital necessary to run. But he can wait til 2012 or 2016. The guy's only 45 years old.

What about our pal from Wisconsin Russ Feingold? I really like that guy. He stands by his principles when he votes rather than getting sucked into partisan voting. He voted against invading Iraq. He was the only guy to vote against the Patriot Act, so that shows you that he 1) actually reads stuff and 2) cares more about protecting civil liberties than waving the flag. Republicans hate him because he introduced the resolution to censure Bush after the illegal wiretapping thing. He's also done his fair share of pissing off democrats by voting his own way. Good for him.

This was interesting too

My main beef with feingold is the McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform bill, now they are discussing putting limitations on talk radio, what the fuck? plz reread the first amendment boys

you're right about obama, he would get more than a few votes for the simple novelty of being black, as hillary or condy would for being female, but he needs to come out from under the radar if he's going to get some long term name rep and recognition

edit: that lib rating is somewhat alarming, anything too lib or conservative is going to be hard to win with, and impossible to run a country with, kinda sounds like the antithesis of say.........oral roberts being the rep nomination, 98%?? wow

Don't get me wrong on Obama. He's a decent guy. He really hasn't done anything though. Who knows, maybe we need the "outsider who hasn't been corrupted by Washington politics."

Who else? I heard Kerry getting tossed around again. He was an appropriate response to Bush in 2004. Seeing as I think he's slightly more qualified than Bush to run the country, yet that doesn't elevate him much in the grand scheme of things.

Wikipedia has a list of announced and potential candidates. A number of names on there I'd prefer not to see, and a lot I know nothing about. Interesting list though.

Yep, Obama would be nice because he doesn't have a lot of experience.  BUt then, do you really need ANY experience to be a good president??  (take a survey of current presidents before answering).

Russ Feingold is awesome too.  I like and trust him so far.  Yeah, hillary will be too predictable and probably not get much done at all other than lots of good photo ops.

Not that I'm comparing Obama to Kennedy, but JFK only served 1 term in the Senate before being elected to the presidency.

Just something to keep in mind, in all of american history, only two presidents have come straight from the senate. Warren Harding and JFK.

I think it's safe to say that trend will probably continue, and I wouldn't put much stock in any senator.  Governors are where the money tickets are at.

I really just don't see any strong canidates coming from either party.
