There are those that have a belief that homosexuality is not natural. That does not make them homophobes. I don't see that belief as a fear of homosexuals. Personally, if it isn't manufactured it's natural. I don't subscribe to the theory that this is a learned behavior, but rather is controlled physically (probably genetic). Last year a very good friend of mine died from AIDS. We'd known each other since elementary school and he "came out" while we were in college. This is a population that has a significantly higher rate of this disease. If I knew there were gays in my unit, and they were seriously wounded, there would be a pause factor to assist. Not because they're gay, but because of self-preservation. If we say that it is OK for gays in the military and no one has a right to know who they are, this pause factor could and would extend to everyone in your unit. I have not been in battle. Hope I or my family never have to. But from what friends have said, there isn't time to pause. If you pause you die.

Wouldn't they test for AIDS if you joined the military?PHPR Hunter wrote:

Probably not. I don't believe you give up all of your privacy rights by joining. They may test you, but that would only to determine if you are fit at the time of enlistment. Perhaps someone who is in the military now, can answer this.
Ok, let me rephrase. Not test particularly for AIDS but they'd at least screen some bloodwork wouldn't they?PHPR Hunter wrote:

Again, I don't know. I have not been in the military. I don't know what type of testing they do or how often they do it. I'm sure there are physicals of some sort. Just don't know what is involved or how often.
I think you have to give approval for that.Ikarti wrote:

They should have tests for 'campness' and only admit those that score less than 8.714 'knickers' (the unit of 'campness') on the 'campness' scale.
campness written test (there will be an oral test later)CameronPoe wrote:

Please name the cast of Will and Grace
How many times have you seen the movie "Beaches"
Ian Thorpe- metrosexual or homosexual?
Have you ever worn Manties http://www.manties.net/
Do you watch the Oprah or The View?
Do you work in the womens fragrances section of a department store?
Only admit them if they know how to camp mains.
Real opinion: Yes, admit gays into the armed forces. If they forcefully make new friends(you know what I mean), then kick them out of the army/criminal charges.

Well. The stereotypical fag would probly make a remark something like this "Oh my god you want me to crawl through the mud! I just washed these pants!"
Hahaha

There was an article in the newspapers here a couple of weeks ago on the topic. Apparently a paracommando (elite airborne infantry - toughest training and requirements in our military) outed himself as gay by marrying his male partner. His superiors applaud his initiative because it takes guts to out yourself as gay in the most macho chauvinistic military environment imaginable, but his colleagues said they'd never accept him anymore because homosexuality is unnatural (a very stupid thing to say, since homosexuality is perfectly natural) and because it besmirches the image of "manliness" that the paracommandos have. Also a very stupid thing to say since he passed the same physical and psychological stress ordeals as they had to face to become a paracommando in the first place AND they didn't seem to question his manliness before they found out he wasn't into women. So the problem here is not whether his sexual nature impairs his abilities, but rather his fellow soldiers' attitudes.
If someone's qualified for the job then he's qualified for the job. There's really nothing more to it.

I say why not? A person is a person right? If they can keep their mind focused on what they're supposed to be doing when they're supposed to be doing it, aren't they doing their job? Just because a guy likes the color pink, does that make him gay automatically?

A bullet is a bullet when fired, no matter what race, sex, orientation or religion, it's still a solid slug of metal fired at you or the enemy with the intention to incapicitate or kill said person. Nothing more.
I dont got a problem with butt pirates being in the military. I dont gotta problem with them even being in my same unit. keep that shit to yourself and lets go get haji...
sure, why not? But gay people are usually too "rainbow" and peaceful to make it into the army....
No, they're scared they'll get raped by angry "hetero" privates in their company if they're discovered.DocZ wrote:
