Gays and Lesbians should have the RIGHT to serve their country just as any heterosexual should. It's arrogant to think only straights can serve or have the right to. If you're scared you might get eye-balled then you need to grow up and try a little communication. So far, the gays in the military that have made the news aren't flaming queens who talk like fags, explain what butt sex is like, and they don't openly flirt with their same sex counterparts....they've all proven to be worthy soldiers focusing on their duties.
And if gays are to not discuss their sexual experiences, then same with heterosexuals. Seriously, this is only an issue of tolerance and arrogance..it has NOTHING to do with ability, dedication, or patriotic duty.
I've worked with gays plenty (i work in the SF Bay Area) and guess what??? They're normal people who can communicate, operate, and conduct themselves in mature, tolerant, and professional ways! WHY don't they "belong?" What is in "belonging" that these people can't do? Have you personally witnessed situation in combat where hetero members of a squad were worried they'd be raped by their homosexual member? I've been in professional and personal friendship environments with gays before and I've been told things that would indicate an attraction towards me and I didn't flip out and gun them down. And thank you for the compliment." Such mature dialogue usually gets you a complimentary result like "Oh, I'm sorry. I hope I didn't offend you." And it ends. Amazing what a little speech does.
