Okay, so I'm doing an upgrade from the specs in my Sig to maybe this on a budget of about £400 max...

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego OEM
HSF: Arctic Cooling freezer 64 pro
MoBo: ASUS A8N-SLi SE nForce4 SLi
GPU: BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT
RAM: 1GB Crucial DDR PC3200 CAS3
Case: Thermaltake Armour JR (Black)

In total, £386.94 (About $724)

Do you think it's any good (I mean, for a buget gaming machine, nothing special and very slight OC...)

(ALSO: What do you think of the Hyundai ImageQuest N91W 19" Widescreen? I'm getting it as a present and I wanted to check it out first.)

you nearly have a new pc there. wouldnt it be more efficient to get nice c2d setup. for 800$ you can already get a pretty good machine

What could you get for $800 that'd be better than that?

(Bearing in mind that Hardware is more expensive in the UK....)

It's also not going to be bought at the same time, it'll be bought in bits and assembled as it arrives...

well for a bit less than 800€ i just bought all the stuff in my sig for the 2nd rig and a bit more like case/psu/etc. dunno about uk prices but you should be able to get something similar for your budget

Something close to yours would cost around 754€, but that's roughly £200 over buget...

I hate the UK...

Although I'd love to get the stuff in your sig, it's just not possible, given the money situation (I'm having to pay for it myself, and being 15 and not having a job sucks...)

even though shipping would be pretty costly, have you thought about buying your stuff from a mainland EU retailer. that should save you quiet a bit of money.
(hardware in Switzerland is very expensive, thats why i buy all my stuff in germany)

EDIT: how about a cookie to cheer you up? +1

EDIT 2: you are looking at the second rig, not the first one right?

It might be a good Idea to order from Mainland UK, My Dad lives in France, so I could have it delivered to him and he could bring it over when he comes, that might save a bit.

Thanks for the +1 ^_^. No longer without Karma!

And yeah, I am looking at the second Rig (With the E6300?)

EDIT: +1 for taking my karma virginity ^_^

ordering in france is probably the wisest and cheapest idea.

your welcome for the karma

and yes; i'm talking about this one:
c2d e6300*Asus P5B-deleuxe WIFI*1 GB GEIL DDR2-800*eVGA7600gt KO superclocked*250 GB Seagate HD
(might have been easier to have just copied it in the first place)

Alright, thanks, I shall order in France then.

Is the system sound? i.e. will it suck beyind belief or will it be alright for games? Bear in mind that I'm not looking for highest rez/detail at all, just lag free gaming.

the system is pretty good, not all highs but decent. if you can spare some more money go for 2 GB ram. also i choose the asus mobo cause it has lots of integrated features and will do nicely for a pc that will also be used as a media pc. you could get away with a different one.

You don't want to order from France.

The reason stuff is more expensive in the UK is the 17.5% VAT. If you order from France it is very likely that you will have to pay equivilent import  tax (sometimes you get away without paying it, but you are always supposed to). That would make the system much more expensive. Importing components is usually false economy.

Don't get such shit RAM.

I'd go for a Conroe.

Something like this:

      Asus P5NSLI nForce 570 (Socket 775)

      Intel Core 2 DUO E6300

      GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

      BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express)

which I found for £415.

You'd be much better off getting 2GB of RAM though and a slightly quicker GPU - 7600GT is fine, but you could do with a slightly quicker one. If you could stretch to £500 then you'd be better off in the long run, it's better to be running 1GB sticks of RAM because you WILL want more, but you don't want to buy just one 1GB stick because then it won't run in dual channel mode.

Hmm, Bertster7's Idea isn't that bad...

I can get that for about £432 inc. Delivery & VAT.

Not bad, I could stretch to this...

And BTW, this isn't for me, I'm getting an E6600 rig soon ^_^

This is for my Brother, who I'm giving my PC to.
