passed a hindu mosque or whatever theyre called near where il live and it had a swastika on a flag on top .. i know its supposed to be the hindu simple for peace but still after what its been used as a symbol of hatred and tyranny for a nazi police state I think they should not use it in public as it does cause offence.
Originaly the swastika was used to ward off evil spirits. And if you looked at it you'd notice the arms go the other way. The Iron Cross something that symbolized Nazis as well is something that is still used in the U.S. Military.
It had been used as a symbol of peace for thousands of years before some Austrian with a god complex slapped it on his tanks.
the iron cross didnt symoblize nazism. Hitler took the Swastika to be the Nazi partys' logo from a book of religious symbols. The iron cross was used in germany as a medal for valour for over two hundred years prior to the 1930s in Hitlers rise to powercpt.fass1 wrote:

"passed a hindu mosque ?."
that's just sad dude.

Understandable, but's a part of human history. If we try and cover things up, they will only get repeated. As long as everyone understands you posting it as an example and not as a promotion, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable.cpt.fass1 wrote:

Well I also have reunion pics from our High school reunion up on photobucket.. OH well hopefully no one will see it and get the wrong idea.. Not trying to cover things up just saying that the Iron Cross is used for the U.S. Military and predominatly know for the nazis... I use to rock my dad's sharpshoting medal from vietnam in my high school days, and would get called on it by Minorities(people other then white) all the time. Where I'd have to tell them it's from my dad who fought in vietnam...
Hindu is to temple as Islam is to mosque
swastika is actually Chinese in origin -- u probably saw a Buddhist Temple.

I find that pretty hard to believe.[bpuk]jack wrote:

Probably because Germany had only been around since the late 1800s.
Sure, it was used to ward off evil spirits, but not many people know that. The majority of the population know it as the Nazi symbol, promoting evil and Nazism.cpt.fass1 wrote:

The iron cross has been used by the German Army since 1813.TeamZephyr wrote:

Well, maybe its time that 'the majority of the population' learn a little more, don't you think?ryan_14 wrote:

I actually learned about the swastika from Kojak the Night Stalker which was an awesome tv show... I kinda hang my head in shame about that, but it seems to be acuate..
I think you mean the Prussian Army. Germany as a nation didn't exist until 1871.CaptainMike wrote:

And 1813 still isn't the "two hundred years prior" that bpuk jack stated.

one of the few time wiki seems to be on about something, though most of the time I see it used as a zen or buddhist symbol it is opposite the nazi swastika and always had the dot in the apex of each arm, the last two instances I can remember it being used in it's proper fashion were the "blade of the immortal" graphic novels and "master of the flying guillotine" kung fu movie (features "betty" from kung pao and possibly the source of the "dhalsim" character from the street fighter series
I doubt it, typically symbols aren't color specific because whatever was on hand was used to make them.[-DER-]Omega wrote:
What color is it? I believe green blue and red symbolize peace and things of that nature. Only the black swastika means hatred
I usually see it as: right half is black arms on white field, left half is white arms on black field, it's supposedly the precursor to the yen/yang emblem

Somebody actually knows their history... you have no idea how surprised I am somebody actually caught that statement.TeamZephyr wrote:

More like... tragic. A Hindu mosque. That's the most horrible thing I've ever heard.mafia996630 wrote:

There's nothing wrong with such use of the swastika. People who think otherwise should re-educate themselves. As to it being offensive... The swastika was not what plunged all of Europe into war, nor did the swastika try to eradicate people in concentration camps. Hitler had a mustache, but oddly enough you don't think a mustache is offensive?
