Why the hell shouldn't they be allowed to build it? If they have the money to purchase the land and building materials and are complying with planning laws then why the fuck not? I thought we lived in the free and enlightened, not to mention secular, west?

- Should Massive Mosque be built in london?
You can't build a church in Saudi Arabia. So, Islam is allowed to spread its word in the west, but other religions aren't allowed to do it in their homeland. Where's the reciprocity in this?CameronPoe wrote:

something I had not thought about was whether or not there were other bids for the land, I don't know about over there, but here such major projects are overseen by developement councils that are not only supposed to weigh the bids for the land but also supposed to weigh the use of the land (they almost always forget this part and just look at the money), I don't know about the area, but if it truly will never be more than 1/4 full than it may be better used as something else, however, considering the financial backing, the mosque is most likely to win out, let me put it like this:
If I'm selling my car, bob wants to pay 8000 for it and sally wants to pay 5000, I am under no legal obligation to sell to the highest bidder if I see the lowest has the greater need or the best cleavage, but barring the existence of a greater public need for the space I fall back to my original position of go ahead and take the money.

In Perth, Western Australia during the weekend, some lone gunman apparently fired a few rounds outside a Mosque with a "high powered" rifle. Out of 400 people praying there, one bullet narrowly missed one lady.
If this happened in Perth, of all places, I think London will have alot more problems.

Well, in the uk we allow people to practise any faith that they want. If they want to build a place of worship then let them. Theres nothing wrong with that in my eyes at all. Serisouly why has this even got media attention? Do they think some one is going to use this building as a base of attack ro something stupid like that?
In response to the original question, YES!
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
They're already there.

my only problem is what B.Schuss (german) and others in englad have told me about their not being able to display national flags or colors because some immigrant groups get offended, for christ's sake, if a country is so offensive to you why the fuck did you move there? As for the mosque, don't see any problem with it, unless they use it as a masthead under which to start riots like in france and such, or to preach hate from, until then, take the money

Just shows how free and open minded the western world is by allowing others to follow their own beliefs.sergeriver wrote:

Umm...I remember a few years ago..maybe 1 or 2, they had on the news that an Australian lady living in America tried to display the Aussie flag, by putting on the porch next to her American flag, and apparently, a load of neighbours got offended because it interfered with their "patriotism".kr@cker wrote:

So, I think she had to take it down, and wasn't allowed to display any other flag except for the American one.
Bit unfair?
I'd never heard of that, I'm in the middle of "redneck country" down here and in my own neighbothood there's a mailbox with the aussie flag, and you can't go anywhere without seeing someone's homecountry flag, especially asian ones down around the air force base, seems air force boys like to bring home asian girls and families, I can't remember who it was told me about the st george/union jack problems, it was back when I first joined and it seems I've made more than a few posts to sift throughMacca wrote:

It really is disgusting when people move to other countries for a better life and then start complaining about that countries religeous beliefs.
Thats why, in Australia, John Howard (our PM) is trying to bring in that anyone wanting to become an Australian Citizen needs to take a test, where they have to speak fluent English, and can adapt to the Aussie way of life, well, something like that, I don't pay much attention to what our PM says.
Stupid I.R. laws.
Once a piece of land has a mosque, isn't it considered to be Muslim land in perpetuity?
They still think Spain and Yugoslavia are Muslim and will be again.
NO
Give them an inch, they will take a mile.

The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'
The problem with Muslims, is that their first and highest obligation is being Muslim. Everything else falls behind that.
Our democracies are designed to take care of everyone, Muslims included.

Um, they can build anything they want long as they don't break any laws. C'mon people, we're in FREE nations here.
