Now, Maybe it's just me, but is anyone else pissed off that EA is just offering everyone and their mom a free upgrade or unlock or fancy texture because they pre-order the fucking game? Is EA going THAT far for money? Will they pull some bullshit with this like they did with BF2:SF
(Unlocks....)

EA like any corporate entity drives its investments to the full extent possible..
With little doubt yes they will go the same way as SF as SF was alot more popular then EF and AF imo because at least you could bring something back from SF (unlocks).
Sure a work around was found by people (play on the suckers computer that has SF for 30mins and you got SF unlockables) but it still drew people in to buy SF.
Die hard fans would of invested in EF and AF because about the only thing that carries across on those are ribbons and so on..

Its a good marketing stratergy because gamers want things that not everyone may have, along side this they want new things all the time..
The way EA is marketing 2142 is reflecting that.

To be honest it would not surprise me if they opened a weapons & arms estore for 2142 where you can purchase things for your unlocks (skins, different models) or even purchase additional weapons, character models and so on.
Most of us will denie it but people WILL PAY for these.

Hate to tell you this, but the future of gaming is somewhere between BF2 and Xbox marketplace. I am sure people who don't understand how business or gaming companies in general work will be frustrated at what they consider the "billgatesing of gaming". However I want to reassure you that advertisement in games only helps developers cut the overhead costs and get higher returns on products that very well could cost them their company if they make a mistake.

What does this mean to you? It means that companies will be able to reinvest that money into future projects and it protects them from financial ruin. It also means they can take risks that other companies with lower budgets don't.

Most companies are looking for a way to make a continual profit on their hard work, if they don't they go out of business. Remember that you are paying 50 dollars for entertainment, over my 500+hours I feel that I have gotten my value from BF2. If 2142 delivers only a small fraction of that value then they will have earned my dollars. Really, you ever buy a dvd collection for 50$ and watch it for 500 hours? All things told, I have payed 9cents an hour to play BF2.

Just to inform people about their in game advertising; in a recent interview with developers at DI CE about 2142 said they have complete artistic control over the ads. That means, and they will try fit the world without ruining the immersion experience.

pay for unlocks, skins, and weapons....Pfftttttttttttttttttt...... man i am not going to give those swedish dudes namely DICE anymore money. fix the damn BF2 game before you start this mechassault/ mechwarrior mercenaries hybrid of a game.. yes i am refering to 2142.  i dont have time to deal with 20-30 ft walkers armed to the teeth so that they can squash me like a cockroach.

i cant swallow the futuristic warfare crap of 2142... i might as well play prey or UT 2007
