Geez, I hate that 'Our believe is superiour, you Muslims just copied us'. Cut that crap.

The day this world has no believe at all, is the day we will all walk in peace!

Following his recent comments, the Vatican, fearing for his holiness's life, ordered a new popemobile.

Its called islam. People were forced into following it, and if they question or convert away from it they get pwnt. If they had views, discussion, communication and learning there wouldnt be any muslims.

Speaking of forcing, the Janissaries come to mind.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are Janissaries?

The only Janissaries I've ever come across are in a book by Dan Abnett and they are mercenary killers who belong to (actual possessions of) their clan.

History books ftw.

But in case you're too lazy to hit the libraries, wikipedia and google are handy quick-references.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janissaries

Janissaries may also be used in the context of "elite supporters," which is why it is occasionally encountered in fiction.

What's wrong with Islam? It's no more fucked up than Christianity. Who was forced into following it? Where are you getting these facts from, the Pope?

Ever heard of the Inquisition? That didn't force people into Christian beliefs did it? No one has ever been burnt at the stake for not being a Christian, have they?

If everyone had views, discussion, communication and learning there wouldn't be any Christians.

I'd call the Pope a complete hypocrite for his statement, but I think it might be falling on deaf ears.

Atheism FTW!

He was a Nazi....he was in the Hitler youth!!!!
I thought that was a dead subject, basically, Nazis came to town, took it over, and told everyone capable of carrying a weapon to join up or watch their entire family get executed, you probably would have joined, too. To his credit, he deserted not long afterwards.

As for the Islam thing, again it goes back to
A) I don't give a shit about the feelings of the poor put upon muslims in consideration of how they piss upon everyone else (I.E. migrating to england then propostioning to ban the fucking St George, or trying to segregate schools in france according to sex, though I'm not sure if that was ever successful, putzes)
B) Odd how so many of you will critiscize religion every chance you get as long as it's protesant, catholic, orthodox, or jewish, often claiming it's a way to brainwash people, or whatever Bill Maher said in relation to it being a refuge for the ignorant. Yet when Islam is critiscized you all come running to the defense of basically the only group that is still using religion as the masthead under which to commit murder, rape, oppression, and totalitarianism (a few fringe groups aside, hell even buddhist temples were once renowned for their fighters).
C) The most public aspects of the most powerful branches of Islam are in the press day in and day out, calling for the destruction of everything non-muslim, the subjugation of women, the denial of basic human rights, but you're not supposed to consider muslims of the same cloth as these terrorist/oppressive leaders. They constantly tell us that "that's not the true way of Islam, they are only a fringe minority", yet the supposed "majority" of the peace loving nation of islam does nothing to police it's own. Instead they take any and every opportunity to stonewall attempts to profile terrorists, use the PC machine to turn victims into aggressors, and redirect blame to everyone non-muslim, ala "they wouldn't be so mad if you would just leave them alone".

Actually, it wasn't even a matter of join up or get executed.  Everyone was in it by default.  It was like school, only with military efficiency and bratwurst.  Military bratwurst.

That is only slightly relevant. An apology had been issued and, as far as I am aware of, none of the perpetrators of the Spanish Inquisition are alive this day.

Plus, I don't hear many "last chance or you'll die" offers from Christians to join their faith. There's always the spiritual threat of damnation, but law is generally more concerned with temporal issues.

The inquisition is like, sooooooooo dark ages, you see, it seems that christianity sort of evolved past that some time ago, I guess that puts Islam about 700-1000 years behind the curve. And yes, people in the middle east are still forced into Islam, the most recent case that comes to mind was in Afghanistan, a young man was being held and told to renounce christianity or face beheading (i think, or maybe just cutting off his hands......the point is they were going to cut something off), and had it not been for the recent enlightenment of the area since the elimination of the Taliban's control of the government, then he would be dead, but has since received amnesty under international pressure. This still occurs without handicap in Iran, Syria and such, even some of the more remote Islamic regions of Asia.

For the time being, discounting the fact that there are plenty of atheists in power. But the 'empire seat' of the world constantly shifts about, so don't be too upset. This is by no means permanent.

Interesting...  I read this today, and in light of all the inflamed Muslims who flip out at everyone's FREE SPEECH, and their elevated hatred for Christians (i have pakistani friends who are christian and living in Lahore and they are in danger of being killed)...and along with this, the warmongering conservatives of this country dying to attack another muslim country..and our general apathy towards muslims and "their" world of the middle east...

One can't help but think that World War III will come, and probably soon -- in the form of "The Last Crusade!"  Oh yeah!  You heard it here first from Ironchef.  The III World War (that will be the armageddon before Christ's return) will be the great war between Muslims and Christians.  How fitting as it corresponds with biblical prophecy perfectly.

whoever is in charge will fall into some eventual religious category, even atheist, the fact that the potus and tb and other various pm's are christian is more of a coincidence, it's not necessarily that they are ruling through christianity, just that they have followed christian principles while on the way to their current position, I don't hear Blair ending every address with "as Jehovah wills it, it will be done"

me a "former" Christian believe faith is something to bring peace...
all faiths are build on the same pillars on of them is peace
this goes for all faiths.
the pope quoted a ( i believe) 14th century script so that should be noted on the first post, but never the less it was a little bit dumb and further not constructive at all. he separated Muslims and christans fitter apart by this dumb ass remark. he should have build bridges with Muslim faith not c4 'em

You're post shows that you missed my point: it's easy to criticise Muslim fundamentalists when Christian fundamentalists have a seat on the UN (observer, granted, but still).

A man in such a position as the pope should not be criticizing other faiths as openly as he did.
Did the pope actually criticize Islam, or did he just read something someone else wrote?  I think you need to check it out...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14848884/

From the third paragraph - included for context - highlighted remark:

In the seventh conversation (*4V8,>4H - controversy) edited by Professor Khoury, the emperor touches on the theme of the holy war. The emperor must have known that surah 2, 256 reads: "There is no compulsion in religion". According to the experts, this is one of the suras of the early period, when Mohammed was still powerless and under threat. But naturally the emperor also knew the instructions, developed later and recorded in the Qur'an, concerning holy war. Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the "Book" and the "infidels", he addresses his interlocutor with a startling brusqueness on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached". The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. "God", he says, "is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably (F×< 8`(T) is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death...".

However in page 3:
Only thus do we become capable of that genuine dialogue of cultures and religions so urgently needed today. In the Western world it is widely held that only positivistic reason and the forms of philosophy based on it are universally valid. Yet the world's profoundly religious cultures see this exclusion of the divine from the universality of reason as an attack on their most profound convictions.

I honestly do not see the problem - prehaps the Emperor he quoted is on the muslim black list?  Basically I'm interpreting the Islamic reaction as follows: violent Jihad is in the Qu'ran (I'm not arguing what I think the Qu'ran says), do not ever bring anything to our attention that is negative, only Islamic followers can truly understand the Qu'ran.  The Pope says lets all learn about each other so we can live together...ignored of course...

Sounds like Pope lol... he is the one who proclaimed that he is a living GOD, which stupid good thing I'm not Catholic lol.

Also Catholic church killed so many Protestants and so many others people because they were not Catholic, also Catholic church was against great thinkers scientists Copernicus, and many others.

Later this was confirmed that Copernicus and the rest of the scientists were right so Catholic Church was wrong there.

Also Catholic church reformed so many times, "how about we change some laws so we attract more people" if you keep reforming you cant stay real to the original religion.

Also the pope being considered a living God as well as an only person who had (still has) his own army to defend him Jesuits. Also no other religious leader has military power as well as the religious powers.

Plus the pope has the special country only made for him Vatican.
