Well, this is what i'm putting together...

Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6813131593

CPU (I chose this due to it's OC'ing capability)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6819103739

Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814122004

Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6817256006

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820231065

HDD's
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6822136033 x 2 (raid 0)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6822136055 (storage)

That's the main stuff, i have the DVD rom, water cooling kit, HD cooling kits all picked out too.  I just got approved for a new credit card just for this purpose, my old PC was 4 years old and just took a shyte on me, so I wanted to go all out to last me a while.

oh yea, if you guys have any suggestions/recommendations, feel free to give your input.

Yeah, I have one of those but it's just for looks right now

edit: I don't have that particular one, not sure what kind mine is, it doesn't plug into a PCI slot, it plugs directly onto the mobo.

maybe you will have to forgive my ignorance,
but what is the technical difference between your 7950 card
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814122004

and this one
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … p;NoMapp=0

other than about 200$ and brand name. The second one actually has core/mem clocks of 565/1430 vs 500/1200 of the one you listed, and bot hhave gddr3 memory.

The difference is about 512MB of GFX RAM,

You'll be happy with the 7950, it's a great card, mine has played everything I've thrown at it with veritable ease.

Only change I would make would be to get a conroe instead of the x2 4000 AM2,

For an extra $50 you could get a E6600, not only will this thing beat most CPU's available on stock settings, but apprently (might want to do a little research) the entire Core 2 Duo range over clock brilliantly, meaning you'll end up with a CPU running at speeds you would be paying massive amounts of money for.

but from all i have read, the performance increase from 256mb to 512 on the 7900 (512 to 1024 for the 7950) isnt too much of a gain. I've been debating this road myself, but for 200$ i have to question how much gain you really see.

All I can say to that is I had a 7800 GTX 512MB version, it got fried along with the majority of the rest of my computer, long story short I got a 7950, and I've seen a 20-30 increase in my FPS, this essentially means I see a constant 100fps on my screen.

The 7950 is basically just to 7900 GT's stuck together and SLi linked, as it uses SLi it tends to be much better on a large high resolution monitor (20.1" 1600x1200 Monitor arriving soon)

i am just trying to debate the performance increase from the 256x2 7950 to the 512x2 7950. I have no doubt that both will kick ass, but for the 200$ more, is that money really getting much of a performance return.

thx for responses though.

I got the same idea, I guess, cause here's what I just ordered this week:

M2N32SLI-Deluxe ... think this is better than yours, give it a glance;
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ ... yours maybe better, like the 2x1mB cache!
XFX GF7900GTX XXX Edition (clocked at 700Mhz) 512Mb GDDR3 ... yours owns, but I can save like a 100 bucks on this one
OCZ DIMM 2GB DDR2-800 PC6400 ... ? dunno ?
RAPTOR 36.7 ... I am trying to get the new 16MB cache version, just only found the 8Mb so far
COOLERGIANT 535W

only installs on this baby: Windows XP, BF2, BF2142 [;-D]

Well I simply got the I could at the time, I think the 7950 is a good card for those who want very high end graphics, but don't want to pay $600+ for a pair of 7900GTX's with only a small hit to performance

single 150gb Raptor would perform better than 2 - 74gb Raptors on Raid 0 ?

I do see a price advantage and would save me like $70.00

I would go for the 2 74gb raptors in RAID 0....they outperform a single 150gb

Very nice. Might I make a suggestion?

That motherboard will go to waste on that current config. Its created for SLi so either buy a mobo with just 1 PCIe slot OR buy another 7950GX2 OR buy 2 lessor video cards (like 7900GTs). Just a thought.

Apart from that damn its nice..........

Or he could just buy a half decent one for now and get the same one later in time....

Can anyone help me find information regarding the AMD processor and it's negative ties to top of the line brand RAM (Kingston, Corsair, G.Skill, Patriot)?  I was just told that those name brand memory sticks don't work well with AMD X2 processors.  The guy said that the cheaper stuff works best lol

Tripp - you are going to love that rig!  I just built the same thing, but with an Intel P4 3.6 GHz chip.

I had ani ATI video card before.  The nVidia SLI is AMAZING with BF2.

Currently, the Core 2's are a bit faster than AMD.

That method leads to half-decent computers all the time, but I bought an AGP system in Nov'04 for a few hundred below $2k and it has lasted me to this day.

However, there weren't really any games due out for some time that would stress it much at all.

But soon, DX10/SM4 ftw.
