hello,

I bought two new sticks of ram today. they have "CL3" in their description, while my two old sticks are "CL2.5"
All other descriptions are the same.

can I put both (the old ones and the new ones) together in my PC? Are they compatible? Did the guy in the shop sell me something wrong (I gave him a box of one of my old sticks and said that I wanted the same, he said he can't get those but that he'll order equal ones from another manufacturer)?

Thanks for your help - hrundi

thank you.

will it be a lot slower then or will there be no real difference?

you wont notice shit unless you got amd 64

and what will I notice with and amd 64 (because I have one)?

it means your computer will run like crap, you need at least CL -7 to run the game good

I dont think you will notice a thing .. most ddr2 seems to run at much higher latency ... Imnwould pay it no mind.

CL - CAS Latency.

You will not see a difference in BF2 with a difference of CL2.5 to CL3. Maybe in a benchmark, but you won't notice it - don't worry about it.

Yes, you can run both sticks if you want.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but it seems pointless starting a new one when it's on a very similar theme.

What are the benefits of lower latency RAM over, say, value RAM as far as BF2 is concerned when using an Intel processor?

lower latancy ram = less delay between information reaching it, being pocessed and being fed back to CPU

(i think)

yes. AMD 64 cpus are best ran w/ cas 2 ddr400, cas 2.5 is pushing it

So lower latency = better performance?

exactly, lower latency = performance.

ie:

is a load of shit

the cas latency has to do with the clock cycles.  Fewer=better

So, like I said, the lower the latency number, i.e. 2, the better the performance. Does this apply to Intel chips because I seem to remember someone on here saying that latency was important to AMD chips, but bandwidth was important to Intel.

oh good God ... well then it's DEFINITELY a load of shit ...

psychic RAM ftw?

It applies accross the board.  Bandwidth isn't of much use if you can't regularly access it.

Another note .. just because u buy ram capable of CL2 timing, it does not mean ur bios can run with that timing.
