Computer Crash

My computer is crashng after load in. From start: Load BF2, Pick Server, Press JOIN GAME. Once i have done this all I can do is ALT/TAB out of the game. Its as though the computer freezes, the mouse does not move or anything!!
My System:
A8n Sli Premium Mobo
Athlon64 3800+ x2 cpu(switched to single core in game)
2Gig Geil DDR400 ram
Pixelveiw 7800Gt graphics card(medium settings in game)
Sound (on board)
Standard mouse and keyboard
21" Crt monitor

Everything was running perfect until yesterday when it started crashing every game. Everything works fine when web browsing, playing card games, listening to music and even watching a DVD. But when I load into a game like BF2 or similar I press join game then nothing. If i leave it for 30sec the computer shuts down then turns itself back on again. This is driving me nuts. To rule out one thing: I have downloaded and install the latest graphics driver from nVidia and it still crashes. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!.

A few questions:

Have you changed anything at all?
Has windows downloaded any updates?
Has anybody else got access to you PC?

Have you checked for viruses and spyware?

Haven't changed any settings
Windows is updated to the most recent
My girlfriend has access but she just looks at e-mail, plays card games(solitaire) and BF2. Anything to do with system she won't touch

I did a scan and there were no viruses, spyware or the like
I run McAfee easy pc protection

First off, right-click "My Computer". Go to Properties, then click the "Advanced" tab at the top right, then under "Startup and Recovery", click "Settings". Now, un-check the box that says "Automatically restart".

You should know get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) in the event of system failure. This will help to determine the problem based on the error code it will give.

I'm gonna guess RAM or PSU. Download Prime95 (google it for a link) and run it. Go to Torture Test and choose "In Largeplace FFS (pretty sure that's what it's called)". If you're computer locks up or gives a BSOD, then it is definiately a power issue or a RAM issue.

I've seen windows updates completely screw up BF2 for some reason.

I'd put my money on RAM or PSU too, or maybe video card.

Or, has the PC been moved at all?

If it has, open the side and check that all expansion cards and the ram are all seated in their sockets properly. Also check HDD/DVD data cables and all power cables.

Sometimes it can be a simple as something being just very slightly out of kilter - and if you just go round and make sure all connections are true it sometimes fixes that kind of problem.

Thanks for all the sugestions guys. But i found the problem laid with the control setting(ingame). I reset the controls to default then set them to the way I usually have them. Weird enough problem solved. I had gotten to the stage where I pulled it apart and reassembled it and still had the problem. Never did I think that it would be so simple. Thanks again everyone and hopefully see you guys in game. Three cheers to all that replied.

I say somethings overheating because the way you describe it, a computer has a self-defense mechanism that shuts itself off to prevent damage to the overheating part. I learned this when I tried to install an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with the Barton core. This was long ago and I forgot to put the heatsink on. But honestly, it could be your chipset, CPU, or your video card overheating.

CPU 25 - 35 degrees
MOBO 20 - 25
G/Card 35 - 45
PSU 40 - 50

My case is a Thermaltake TAI CHI liquid cooled
