Isn't that idea Post Modernism?

A history teacher at school (remember our school is small ~2000 kids, k-12) got new textbooks for Sociology and a poster came with it.  The posters main points were if someone is different than you, "Who cares?"
Two of the points under it were "If someone has different beliefs than you.   Who cares?"  and  "If someone has different morals than you.   Who cares?"  The teacher took the posted and ripped it up and said if I disagree with someone's morals, I will be the first to tell the how I believe.  And I agree with him on that.  If I have different morals or beliefs, I will not hold back, but rather I will speak my mind.  You may remember a few months back I in my signature I had what I beliefs I held to spelled out in black and white.

So, as you can tell, I disagree with that statement.  (kind of ironic the new thread I posted in this section of the forum about morality.  )

Not to be picky, but using words like "jihad" in Muslim speeches about the West is equally unwise.
What is this, 3rd grade?  No one said anything about Muslims.  It's a f*cking disgrace to the country that Bush is lowering himself and the country's image to the level of Muslim extremists.  Well, not that low, but it's getting lower all the time
did you see his speech last night?  Right at the end he said "May God bless us all and this country".....or something like that.

I know he is a religious man....and that is fine....but there is no place for religion in the gov't - How can this be at all helpful during a speech to the nation/world?  He is giving these extremists justification for calling THEIR cause a religious one....

I honestly believe that most extremist muslims feel that all Americans are out to convert them to Christianity or die trying.....when in reality, most Americans could NOT CARE LESS what religion a bunch of Arabs are half way around the world!  Most American's don't care about religion period!

i admit i haven't read any of this bar the topic name and i think it needs a big bump.

we should all strive to learn more about the different religions involved in the worlds troubles.

with islam, judaism and christianity as the prime example: jesus was a JEW, as was job, and abraham. mohamed was protected and assisted by the jews, and HE never forgot that, all three religions stem from the one area of a culturally diverse region. the newest religion in that are is christianity, the main religious texts of all three agree one most all points/matters except one......what is gods name? in judaism it is jehovah, in islam it is refered to as allah and to us christians/catholics/protestant etc it's simply god.

my personal belief is that there is one "god" and only one "god", and he has many prophets. like shakespear said " a rose by any another name would still smell so sweet.....". call him what you will but remeber all three texts tell as to respect ANY person of faith. they never say to exclude any faith from that list either, they all say that you should be willing to defend and profess your faith, none of them suggest the use of sword to SPREAD your faith or ENFORCE its ACCEPTANCE.

lets all just play nice people, and treat people of other religions the same way we treat people of own

I was doing a bit of wishful thinking this morning, so I thought I'd pose this.

Got a friend who's Catholic? Who cares. Mormon? Muslims? Baptist? Lutheran? Jew? Know someone who practices a different faith than you? No faith at all? I couldn't care less. I've visited a few churches in my time, and I can safely say that all that matters to me is that someone's a decent individual. Normally, religions preach about 'caring and decency' and that's the end result that counts (until, of course, you come across a cult that tells you to give up your children or commit mass suicide). If someone can be a good person without religious influence, then I don't care. If there's no afterlife, then be content with having contributed something to society, even if only minor, before personal oblivion. If there is an afterlife, then who's to say what religion had it right anyway? Honestly, I could give a rats arse if people believe horridly-scrambled translations of ancient scribblings to be true, or if they think it's all just horseshit.

I care that people replace reason with religion, logic with faith. Religion is the morality of death, I prefer the morality of life.

Atheism ftw. The belief in good values is as good (if not better) than any religion imho. Minus the rules and "kill for your belief" crap, but keeps the good attitudes of benevolence etc.

If you were to do that, it would make you a missionary for atheism. Alot of atheists are just as guilty of cramming their beliefs down peoples' throats as religious folk.

Your school should focus more on English grammar than sociology. I stopped at "The teacher took the posted and ripped it up and said if I disagree with someone's morals, I will be the first to tell the how I believe," as I was getting a headache.

He's not the first, nor likely the last president to invoke the name of God in a speech. It is highly superficial, not native to the US alone, and I think people stress too much about its PC implications. They're just words, after all, and so far Bush hasn't hinted as to the formation of a 'Church of America,' complete with obligatory membership for its and all 'satellite' nations' citizens.

It's not a belief its straight talk, telling you what it is, it has no goal but to state the facts.
Take it or leave it, the choice is always yours.

I'm not suggesting your thick but how does Islam predate Christianity exactly? Mohammad was pottering around 600 years after Jesus.
