Since there are no jets in Verdun and no airfields in the screenshots of the other maps, it looks like there will be no jets in BF2142.

what do you think and is it true?

The jets and helicopters have been combined into the air attack vehicles you see now.  This has been confirmed by EA and DICE for months.

I wonder what your definition of jet is? A aircraft propelled by turbines? Or as a multi purpose vehicle that fills all the roles of other vehicals; such as the J-10 in BF2?

My opinion is that the functionality of the "jet" has been removed in 2142, as the Anti-air/anti-personnel/anti-armor mammoth in bf2, there is nothing that fits the "jet's" profile. If there is anything close it's the walkers. But even they have a major weakness, they are slow, and easily outmaneuvered if properly confronted, they also have a shorter range than all of the other armor, save the APC, which really isn't armor at all. The air vehicles have been "dumbed down" so that anyone can fly them, even with a mouse. However they don't compare to the J-10 in BF2, not because they are weak, but because they have been given a role to fill; anti-air, trying to be anti-armor with the aircraft in 2142 will get you shot down very quickly. Their greatest strength is also their biggest weakness, the ability to hover in place easily. For a novice trying to take out a tank, you will most likely stop and turn around to readjust your cross hairs, a tank can be VERY accurate at close range, and it only takes one hit to down a bird. Also a tank has active defense which can be used very effectively to stop strafing attacks. As for walkers, they are pretty much the last thing I want to see when flying. Active defense, AA guns, and missiles with EMP all make it a pilots worst nightmare. Even the APC would do pretty well if he got a lucky EMP shot off on an air vehicle. As for personnel, I would say that its much easier to blend in with the surroundings now. Tags don't usually show up unless they have been spotted by someone in your squad. So unless you are one of those sad people who uses the wall hacks to see where people are, you will probably not see your opponents unless you have a good squad shouting out their locations.

I think that this game is a much more balanced (vehicle wise) game than bf2. I doubt you will see many "vehicle-whores" and as for turbine aircraft, i am not exactly sure how those hybrid aircraft are propelled, but I like em, you can do some crazy rolls and tricks, even as a novice. They fill their role perfectly and have weaknesses that make them not so 1337 as a 'copter or J-10 in bf2.

I like the hover tank tho, its pretty fun.

I totally agree with u P581. I also think that when someone gets into these "jets" (sorry cnt remember name-isnt it like Dragon or sumfink?), they should wait for someone else to get in and take the gunner seat. Ive flown and been in the gunner seat of these "jets" and have found they're far more effective with a gunner. The only problem that i have found with these "jets" is that the tv-guided missile is far too sensitive. You move your mouse a tiny bit and it goes off miles. Also the crosshairs for these tv-guided missiles aren't as well defined as in BF2, which i believe contributes to the inaccuracy.

Sounds like 2142 is going to get old fast (for those who buy it)...part of the fun of BF2 for me was the relatively steep learning curve for the chopper, because after lots of practice it felt rewarding to get progressively better in it.  I would quickly lose interest in using a vehicle that is so easy any novice can hop in and quickly be flying and doing rolls, etc.

Yea, they have taken out the "hardcore" aspects of flying, but I think it has added a lot of of balance to the game. Not that I flew much in bf2 (look at my stats to see). But it really evens things out a lot more. I would personally rather have a game that was balanced than an experienced player cleaning up spawn points while the rest of the players sit on their thumbs and wait for someone to get past the copter so they can shoot him. Perhaps you don't play on servers where the experienced flyers are REALLY experienced, but the ones I am on guarantee that if you ever get in a piece of armor, or another jet, you will be dead within a few seconds.

Balance equals fun for me, yes that means you will die more, and kill less. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles I suppose. I for one like cookies, and will eat them no matter what form they are in.

I believe the weapons in the Gunner seat of the Gunship will probably be the first things players demand changed if they remain as they are in the Retail version. I find the primary cannon not accurate enough to take out running infantry and the guided missle is next to impossible to control unless you have a mouse that can change sensativities on the fly like the G5. Then you could bump it way down for firing missles and then back up to fly again.

No actual jets.  The Doragon and the EU equivelant probably in fact are underpowered, but that's a welcome change from J-10s and other jets dictating the flow of battle.  I have had many Wake maps where USMC was pinned down at a single spawnpoint, unable to advance because China had too much armor and all at the next spawnpoint and some of our reinforcements were bombed by J-10s, and the F-35s were non-existent.  Of course, I do love the IR missiles on fighter-bombers (although I think they should be nerfed a bit so they get flame kills, not insta-kills).

So basically, take a jet and a chopper, nerf the living crap out of both of them, combine them, and you've got the BF 2142 aerial vehicles.
