Probably something to do with the sprites on your computer.

Is your game in german, maybe you installed the wrong languaged patch?

I to have this same problem and I just did the update patch. I'm going to reinstall with the full patch tonight and see if it fixes it.
Cologne-fab: Did you make changes to your Localization Files? This is the only thing that I ever made changes to that maybe could have caused this problem...
to be honest ive got kinda same problem but thats cos ive changed in locilazation for 'pimp my bf2'( it creates clearer descriptions of the kills and what i do instead of the plain red and blue kills)

So yes I would say for what changes we made to our localization files is what caused the weird map descriptions to screw up. I guess we need to find our original localization files and reinstall 1.4 patch.

try the full patch not the incremental, I had this with the new sniper and UAV when they were first introduced.
It would say - ME(kill_message_weapon_L96A1)noob

this is localisation. 100 % sure of that
the incremental doesnt update the localization thats why u can go into ur fles and rame then things however u want

Reinstall BF2 1.4 patch, i got that 2 when i first installed 1.3
i have been waiting to use this on a dumb ea/dice problem post...here we go boys and girls...
