It's probably a common problem but I will post it here just in case. I am getting this frequently.

An error was encountered
Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. MySQL reported: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (11).

I bet it's being hammered with too many connections from browsing/stats or some nasty and random software glitch... I'm getting that error on every 3rd click.....

jsnipy, i don't think the database is load balanced but i might be wrong... I only assume it isn't because is says local mysql db in the error, and the load balancer would usually be a remote address and the error message would be "Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. MySQL reported: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'xyz' (111). It might be possible to run the load balancer on the same machine, but from what I understand it's unusual...

Turns out it was an angry noob DDOS'ing the server. We banned him earlier, so he decided to reinforce our opinion of how big of an idiot he is by doing that.

All fixed now and we shouldn't have any more problems, at least for a while.
